Well after years of promising to take me to a league game, my other half has booked us two tickets to the world club challenge at Elland Road.

She's been watching the Rhinos for years, I on the other hand am used to the Kop at Bramall Lane and mucho swearing/abuse of Piggies at Hillsborough.

I can just about bear going to Elland Road but my real question is... what should I expect from my first league game?

Good fun compared to Footie matches, lots of friendly supporters from all the clubs will be there, lots of friendly banter, you can drink beer on the terrace watching the match (something i am told you cant normally do at Footie games, no beer on the terrace etc), should be some fast rugby with hard tackling. Not even going to begin to be drawn into the old League Vs Girlie Rugby debate...................:D

:p

You're right about the attitude though (it's the same for all rugby matches from experience) people are friendly, lots of fun banter, and league is a much faster game, and quite ferocious!

Either way I'm sure you'll have a laugh, it's more fun than football at any rate! ;)

ive got well into rugby union in the last year... not completely clued up with all the rules yet..

but went to a game a few month ago and its really good...

there is no worry of getting stressed at people for diving or pretending to be hurt and there is generally a lot more respect

headingley is a good place, plenty of pubs and bars about 30second walk from the carnegie. when i've been to see the rhinos theres been decent banter, 4beers each in those containers. Im sure it sells out pretty much every week so i'd advise getting there earlish to get a good spot in the standing stant

Well it'll be fun, but not as fun as union IMO.

Rubbish, League is a far better spectator sport than Union unless you're talking about the International game :)

He's going to Elland Road. He has already said so in this thread.

At least he'll get to see a better ground than he's used to ;)

Good call;) I'm sure you will love it, been playing league for anumber of years at all different levels and love it :).

Well my experience of league so far has been listening to a few games on the radio and watching a few on sky - they've certainly sounded exciting enough to make me want to go. Same for union really.

I've just picked up on the rules as I've gone along, some are obvious but I've had to ask the missus about some of the more detailed ones - as I said she's been watching the Rhinos for years.

I'll be sure to take some antibacterial wipes for the seat before I sit down though.

I'll just have to wait and see, a couple of people I've spoken to have said after their first league game they vowed never to watch football again - some others said they could take or leave it.

Each to their own. :)

I've only ever played union so just find it much more familiar and "proper".

No denying league isn't fun or exciting, but it's just not my bag at all.

You get to see a load of old fart Australian journeymen get clattered (among other things) ..

whats better than that?

Ah rugby league a proper northern sport.:p

Should be a good crack, and will be fast paced and hard hitting should be fun.

As the saying goes, Rugby is a sport for gentleman playing like hooligans and football is a sport for hooligans playig like gentlemen.

Football is a game for gentlemen played by thugs whereas Rugby is a game for thugs played by gentlemen.

That is true except for the football bit and the rugby gentlemen bit :)
