Cant beat a game of rugby, only problem is that its not eactly a game you can play in your dinner hour as you get scruffy.

As much as I think Rugbys the better game on so many levels - competitors, officiating - general physicalness, ive just been brought up with football and love playing!

i love football

its so much greater on a world wide scale than rugby will ever be.

football might be regarded as a sissy sport for die hard rugby fans..

but football can be a joy to watch for the toughness and also amazing to watch for some of the skill that is on show.

but i guess both will have their bad points and their good points. im just speaking as a football fan... so nothing anyone says will make me agree rugby is good.

and nothing i say will make rugby fans agree football is better. opinions

Everyone knows that football was invented when they were playing rugby one day and some misguided idiot decided he didn't like the manliness and physicality of a real mans sport so dribbling the ball would be a way to avoid getting tackled. That was the birth of 'soccer' ;) (that a get a few of you going)

I am from Gloucester, rugby is a religion here and nothing, I repeat, nothing comes close to the poetry, physicality, skills and excitement that a game of rugger provides.

I would urge football players to watch a game of rugby so that they earn respect for the referee and general sportsmanship. Above all they need to learn that you only go down when you have been injured, not rolling about on the floor like they have had a leg shot off just because someone messed up their hairdo. Gert big pansies!

Thing is, I like football as much as the next man. I'm looking forward to the world cup and I'm sad that the footy season is all but over. However, I love rugby, there's just so much more to playing it and the camaraderie is amazing.

Totally agree with the first part. As far as the injuries go, footballers tend to be viewed as a bunch of pansies becuase they roll about whinging. This is why I really like Wayne Rooney as a player, because he's so hard and gets right back up.

Major respect to anyone who can dribble the egg up and down the pitch particularly with some of the bruisers trying to cop a feel..... oh wait is that was the physicality part that the lads enjoy so much? ;) :p

Nice try but neither sport is better on all levels :)

We had a really good team when I was younger.

A mate of mine plays for the Falcons now, Its funny when you remember going on tour with them etc.

I like watching England play union but that's as far as my interest goes. I really do wish that footballers and football fans would display the same respect for one another that you get in Union but I can't see that ever happening. Despite that, it's the beautiful game for me, always will be.

Rugby.
Far too many ponses play professional poofball. See an errant blade of grass when about to be tackled?? solution: fall over, writhe in agony for a few minutes.
I will give the sport its due, when played well, I can see the merit, although not my cup of tea.
Its just the jumped up, overpaid, whiners that actually play it that winds me up.

AND... what is up with the populus NOT wanting video refs? It certainly would stop all the players faking tackles. It works well in Rugby.

rugby, been brought up in a family thats very much into the rugby and not football. I just love the experience/atmosphere of going to watch rugby, its awesome being at twickenham supporting Ireland stuffing England, but still being able to have a good laugh and a drink with the england supporters sat all around you and not be in fear of your life.

I'll watch football quite happily, but I just find it difficult to respect so many of the players for the ridiculous play acting and diving that seems to be so prevalent.
