Rule Britannia or not?

That it was even considered is bad enough. That it was even considered due to the hysteria over the death of a drugged up and violent career criminal in another country is just laughable.
In fairness, dropping Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory has been talked about for years and nothing has come of it.

Personally I believe that they should be retained, they are "fun"; Jerusalem and the collection of Sea Shanties are good as well - all part of the second half.

I suspect that Orchestral versions will be used this year and they will be back next year when there is a full house . . . and a full BBC Radio 3 Proms 2021 season . . . HOPEFULLY!

I don't like traditions
Traditions are part of what civilisations evolve from. The problem in the internet age is that cultural evolution -- the slow process by which habits and cultures interact and merge successfully -- is being steamrollered by the thought police, powered by the endless outrage of social media.

It will not end well. But then no civilisation in human history has ended well.

This was actively being considered, there’s nothing made up about it.

Was it though? For the reasons stated? The only mention I can find is

Jan Younghusband, head of BBC music TV commissioning, confirmed it was still being discussed whether Rule Britannia will feature.

She added: “We have a lot of problems about how many instruments we can have".

Which doesnt really confirm it was been discussed on the basis of BLM.

Of course once Fabricant heard it was even been considered for dropping he made it all about racism with his twitter polls. Fed up hearing his voice on the radio and TV today.

If no civilisation in human history has ended well, then maybe our civilisation not ending well isn't down to the internet and social media?

Not saying SM is a positive thing overall, but I think we maybe have to look at other reasons why culture changes and civilisations come and go.

Perhaps, however in my view there's something else is going on and the thought policing/purity testing is likely just an artifact of demography/limited education in critical thinking. The internet isn't stopping cultural evolution, it's forcing a single one to reign supreme and in this case that just happens to be an amalgam of the current major powers fad's along with the self-enforced need to speak English to enjoy the majority of it.

Just a natural result of instantaneous communication of ideas between countries.

Why is it not being sung then? Rule Britannia is always sung.

Because its normally sung by a massive choir and hundreds of audience members there?

And as stated Rule Britannia wasnt originally sung, it was just played when the proms started.

Feel free to sing along at home as normal though.

No, Rule Britannia is usually sung by a soloist.

It would be interesting to see if only Rule Britannia is being scaled back.

I think BBC should wake up and realise that the people mostly paying the tv license will probably end up being older people.

People worry too much, what goes up must come down sort of thing. For every cultural revolution there's a counter cultural revolution.

People tend to turn traditions into religions that's when problems start.
