rules?

I have already explained this before. People just decide to jump in with their own accusations.

There are 2 options for you:

1). Be a good Don and explain the rules and make it very CLEAR
Or
2). Be childish, delete anything and blame everything on everybody else

I know which option you seem to have taken...

Maybe we have to pretend these issues do not exist, like we have to pretend that major worldwide rainforest online retailer doesn't exist..

Really? we all know it "exists", but why should we start talking about that company on our forums? Its the Overclockers forum..

How can talking about Steam for example, be fine in 1 instance, but as soon as they stock a game you want to sell, suddenly they're labelled a competitor and thus it's bannable to link to said game/deal or talk about it?

It doesn't make sense, it isn't logical what-so-ever.

Either they're banned or they're not, there can't be "There's banned this instance, and not in this instance" because it leads of confusion and makes you mods look like a bunch of fools. Make your minds up, are they banned, or are they not?

I think these are the rules.

Basic bottom line is no promoting of the "new" digital download service as they also sell hardware. End of. Steam is fine, Origin is fine talking about games is fine. Yes we don't have a lot of games, yes it isn't the "core" of our business and I know this.

When did you become a mod.

This forum is first and foremost a community not the ocuk business forum. It is just a small part of the shop with the occasional deals but 99% of it is run by the community.

Well imo anyhow.

Who are they? I'm not a mind reader and no I'm not being difficult. I do not know who "they" are or who you refer to. We need a formal official rule/s to be announced on competitor talk.

Just carry on with the old system until we receive properly thought-out clarification.

The old system, you can post the competitor name unless their core business is in PC hardware like OcUK (at least this is my understanding).

This is what I will be doing anyway.

Hold on a moment. I havent EVER said not to talk about Steam? They are competitor for sure but I havent said not to talk about it? I am saying that before people get confused by the original post "which I didn't start" I said it was OK to talk about these other companies.........

So we are not allowed to mention a store because it sells hardware?

We are not talking about the hardware? We are not linking to the website either, They are selling games the same as Steam and Origin why can't we discuss it?

I can't believe Neil79 is banned.

It would be nice to know why one of the most important members of the PC Games forum has been banned, his contributions are priceless, and something like this could very well make him not want to come back - which would be a massive blow.

It would be nice for their to be some clarification, perhaps a sticky - as I have no idea what digital service that sells hardware is, but what happens if I say it by accident? Infraction? Instant-Ban? Depending on how the mod feels?

Customer service? you are all arguing that it's "ok" to talk about competitors on a forum which is a business.

Im saying that don't talk about competitors of which we sell our main products which is hardware. So Steam is fine, Origin is fine.

Yes we sell games too but these topics keep this part of the forum alive and its good to have members..

we're asking what competitors we can name and what we can't as so far it's not been answered.

and come October anyone who missed that thread will be suspended when they post the news or links to deals yet others posting about all the others will be fine so that wont be confusing at all.

I think I understand the "new" rules, but in all four of my attempted replies, the thread has been deleted or closed. Here's hoping it won't happen a fifth time.

We are not allowed to mention the names of retailers that sell similar products to OcUK (i.e., competitors). This means we cannot mention the actual names of the Jersey store, or the Rainforest, or the Guys in Purple Shirts, etc. We are also not allowed to mention the Rainforest's new digital distribution service.

We are, however, allowed to continue mentioning all the other digital distribution services that we have always been mentioning, like Steam, Direct2Drive, etc.

From my understanding, the only new addition to the rules is that we are not allowed to mention the Rainforest's new digital service, which is obviously why the thread about said service got deleted and why this whole commotion started.

Obviously, though, correct me if I am wrong, Dons. :)
