Running Report – 6 months with the Boxster S.

Brave man... you trust her with your car?

Yeah, 9 years without a crash and although she's only got a little 1.4 Polo she'll only be taking it round the block once a week to keep it going. I was told on the owner clubs to make sure it gets a little drive every 7 days.

I was told the same they don't like being sat doing nothing. Well good luck with the surgery, nothing too bad I hope.

Cool, I look forward to the outcome. Got a friend coming up tonight and my car hasn't been driven for a good few days so I am going to get them to start it and rev it while I take a look at the exhaust and smoke.

Cool. To be honest if you havent noticed high oil use, I`m pretty sure it will be fine. I`m talking using >1L of oil per 1k miles.

*Update*

Did the oil monitoring since my previous post. Usage came 2.8L over 1000 miles :p So more than slightly excessive.

Car is booked to go in 28th December and I have a boxster to enjoy in the freezing weather! I will get the roof down just for fun :D. Car is full OPC warranty and bought in April, so unlikely to give any surprise costs.

I`ll report back with what they find/do, which will probably be a few days in to the new year!

I know this is a bit of a 'Holy Thread Revival Batman' post, but what sort of money are 986 Boxster S worth these days?

A friend is trying to sell an 03 plate 986 Boxster S, 50500 miles, 2 owners, good condition. Parkers won't do a valuation for the car unless you pay and Glass' don't seem to do Porsches at all. Webuyanycar.com came back with £6,400 - what sort of price should he be looking at?

Cheers in advance :)

Privately the above doesn't sound too far off, though I'd of thought you would really struggle to get anything over £8k.

Trade will likely be significantly lower than that on a boxster of that age - I know of a 2000 S with one owner that was traded in for a couple of grand (which was, imo madness).

Not really worthy of a new thread but thought I'd add a bit about insuring a Boxster S.

I took out my policy when I was 21 and the cost was £1200 give or take a few pounds.

That was me, and my 50 year old mum on the policy, I've just had to add my girlfriend (28) as I'm not able to drive for a while due to knee reconstructive surgery and they charged £17.50 right through till May next year.

Well chuffed, in terms of insurance quotes compared to other cars stuff like an RX-8 and 350Z were all a few hundred quid more. A 911 turbo was only coming in at £1800 a year though and I do have a very good post code (GU21).

911's arent that expensive to insure. I just renewed mine (996 turbo) im 27 with my wife of the same age and it cost me £450 with a £600 excess. I found with my last car (996 C2) adding my mum to the insure made it increase:p. I think they just plucka figure out the air. I would reccomend joining the offical club as there lotsof good info, andyou get a discount at your local OPC. P.S. The new boxster puts out the same amount of power as my '99 C2 so they're not exactly slow.
