Nice one now I have a new phrase for all those Z drivers I come across. "Nice car, shame its a poor mans GT-R" :p
 
I do like it, I honestly think the money for the facelift lights is worth it though.

Bet it's amazing in the summer months :D

After spending £2k in the first 6 months of ownership on mine, a year later and I haven't had to spend anything much more at all (beyond petrol and tax anyway). I did have the brake discs and pads replaced all round, but that's just normal consumables, and was only £300 all round (perks of a non 'S'!) which is very reasonable.

I might just replace the coil packs though - 3 of them are cracked but there's no misfire - specialist told me to leave it until it becomes a problem, but I might just get it done anyway.

Other than that, the cars running a dream and a love it more the longer I have it. Off for a proper hoon tomorrow with a mate in his Cayman. When parked next to each other, it does make the 986 look a bit dated (clear light conversion helped a lot though), but then again his did cost £42K compared to £9k for mine, and he won't be having any (well, much) more fun
 
Yea they tend to get squeeky as they get older. Front suspension parts arn't crazy expensive and if you go MO30 you can get a full set of springs and struts for £600 if you shop around.
 
I`m coming up to 6 months of ownership of my Cayman S aswell. Have to say I still absolutely love it. Only issues so far are a pretty high oil usage (going for major service next week), suspension sounding clunky in the cold (not sure if this is normal, it goes away after 10min of driving and feels fine). Similarly I find first gear isnt as smooth to select when the car is cold.

My only other annoyance is slow drivers ;)

I work at southend hospital, so I`ll keep an eye out for your car!

Ahhh cool what colour is your car and I will look out for you. was following a nice black Cayman S earlier down hamlet court road. Wasn't you was it?

mine uses near zero oil, didn't need topping up once between last 2 services (20k miles )

Check for smoking, high oil consumption on that engine can be early signs of bore scoring, so check for any smoking.

If it is then get it too Porsche and make things out to be far worse than they are or take it to specialist and get bores 5 and 6 inspected for scoring.

+1, my Cayman is still at max after 15 months since last service and that's despite being told last friday I have potentially a small oil leak around the RMS.

/edit Gibbo I assume you've read Hartech Baz's theory on what could be causing bore scoring, has it changed the way you drive?

It smokes on start-up for 5-10s, then nothing noticable after that. Its going to porsche next tuesday for its major service and i've asked them to look in to it while its there, its under warranty so hopefully nothing i'd need to pay for repair wise.

My car is silver BTW, not black. I think there is a black cayman S (?gen 2) around southend aswell.

*edit* Just went out to have a look and today there was no noticable smoke even on startup. I have noticed some thickish smoke on start-up only before. My commute is ~18 miles with majority at 50-70 mph, so the engine should be warming properly with each run IMO.

And a white one. BTW you seen that cobra with the "cobra" plate driving around recently? Need to stop him and see if it is the real deal.

I heard that these smoke on start due to the engine design, being flat bits of oil get stuck (somewhere) and the car spits it out when you fire it up. Was told its nothing to worry about although mine doesn't smoke as far as I know.
