Can any one advice me on a new pair of trainers just for running i have just had plantar fasciitis and ready to start running again next week so i am looking for trainers with good arch support any advice much appreciated.

Thanks for the link didnt see that.
not much help but thanks anyway any runners out there with any advice on trainers?

That guide by platypus gives you great advice on shoes, don't see how you can say it's not much help. Buy off the internet without a clue what sort of shoe you need and you might get lucky, or then again you might be posting again in 2 weeks asking why your knees and ankles hurt when you run.

But whatever, I'd get these because they're red.

Shmo you miss understood my point when i said its not much help i meant no disrespect to him just i wanted a advise on what trainers are good for runnning
thanks for the link tho.

Asics/mizno/newbalance/saucony there's your top brands.

You're better off going to a running shop with a dedicated fitting centre, they can discover what your running gait is any select a suitable shoe or failing that buy a fairly neutral shoe then by an insole that works best, there are several reasonable orthotic type insoles that can help i use one by specalized and it works great on and off the bike.

I use saucony grid trigon and i love them, plenty of support but not weighty enough to bog you down or the asics ds trainer is a personal favourite, the mizno wave riders get good writeups as well.

Go to a running shop and get fitted properly. None of us can tell you via the internet whether you overpronate, or how wide your toes are. Seriously, go to a running shop, your feet will think you. Mine did :)

Get to a running shop. If your serious about running its best to have your gait measured and to have shoes properly fitted to fit this gait. If not you can end up destroying your legs/knees in the long run :)

Running shop... running shop... feet looked at... gait.....

Look to spend maybe £80 on them and it will be worth it if you really want to run.

I have a pair of Brooks and they are great for me, this was after trying a fair few others.

Get yourself to a decent running shop.

I started running in December and bought a pair £30 Reeboks from some big chain sport shop, but when I ran for >30min they simply killed my feet/legs/hips.

Recently I finally got my ass to a running shop, got my gait looked at and shoes picked out to try on. Bought a pair of Saucony shoes, I couldn't even tell you the model as it doesn't matter. They're also gold/chav yellow which I dislike so they must really be good :p

Wore the shoes in well, and yesterday finished the Bath half marathon in complete sublime comfort. Zero blisters, nothing. I think the only limit was my complete lack of training (6 runs since December)! Roll on the Bristol 10K :) :)

As recommended by others, you should go to a running shop to have your gait measured, and then they will recommend you some shoes which you can test on a treadmill and they will make sure it is right for you.

At a good running shop they will watch you run on a treadmill and look at the way your feet land and whether you run turned in/out/straight. They will advise on what trainers based on that. Otherwise if you crank the distances up you'll get knee, shin and ankle problems.

There is no one size fits all brand of trainer that is good for running.

The only trainer that is good for you is the one you get fitted at a proper running shop. Which, I am fairly sure, the running sticky tells you!

Yes, I'm not going mad:
Shoes

One of the advantages of running compared to some other sports is that you don't need to buy much kit. However, above all you need a pair of shoes that is right for you. I cannot stress this enough: Have your shoes fitted professionally.

For a show with good arch support and stability go have a look at Asics Kayanos.

Get some fitted using GAIT testing or by a Podiatrists, They are you best bet. I did both :)

I do wish people would stop recommending brands in threads like this. It's tantamount to giving bad medical advice. Ill-fitting shoes can be downright dangerous. What works for you might not work for anyone else.

If you have read my normal posts i always say what i wear and why i wear them but also tell them to go try them on and get GAIT down or even got to a Podiatrist.

I know Kayanos have excellent support and a Good arch so if people ask for that i will say to try them on to give them a guide to know what to look for.

I can only reinforce what other people have said about gait analysis, if you want to run get it done!

I used to get aches and knee problems from running until I went to a proper running shop and had gait analysis done. The guy in the shop helped me try on about 20 pairs of suitable shoes and sizes with the correct support and I spent about an hour trying them all on multiple times to compare, when you do that you can really feel the slightest change in comfort and fit and get the absolute perfect pair. It now feels like I'm running on clouds and get no knee problems at all.

Thanks this as helped me massive i have found a local running shop in nottingham where i live going to give them a visit.
