Russian Grand Prix 2015, Sochi - Race 15/19

Whilst it may very well be posturing by RBR, what Skeeter is getting at is a good point. no one can force them to engage a commercial deal with anyone they don't want to. They can't be made to use Renault or anyone else for that matter.

If they breach contact terms that bond them into 2020, then all that will happen is them getting sued for the payments they've had as a result when they leave. If that sum is less than it would cost them to race for 3 years then I can't see them being overly bothered.

No, but likewise the same is true of Ferrari or Mercedes supplying engines. You can't force them to, no matter how much crying RB do.

I think the difference is in the details of RB's contract. Does is say they don't have to honour it if they can't get a competitive engine?

RBR have not been offered engines. Ferrari were offering year old engines if the FIA allowed it, but at the WMC council last month they didn't vote the change in. RBR can only use current engines, and none of the 4 suppliers are offering them.

RBR aren't turning down what they have been offered, they litterally have no offers. They currently could not race in F1 in 2016 no matter how much they want to.

Its not just that. There were empty seats at Williams, Red Bull, Lotus, Ferrari, even possibly Mercedes, yet he's chosen to stay at McLaren. If they turn out to be pap again next year he will only have himself to blame.

I really hope they aren't, but I'm not confident they will make the progress they are claiming.

For 2015, sure.

The fact he's staying for 2016 is yet another stupid decision by him.
I think McLaren will be very midrange next year, but again I don't think anyone else will be really challenging merc. So no skin off Alonso's nose.

2017 is the where its at and McLaren is one of 3 or 4 teams who can win. What Ron's saying is true... You need to be a works team to have any chance.

One rule change I'd like to see is engine manufacturer only allowed to race their new token upgraded engines when they have enough to supply all teams.

Williams and lotus won't beat merc so pointless. Ferrari not shown the potential to consistently get at merc. Red bull with a merc, or even Ferrari engine would be interesting but with newey phasing himself out... I'd gamble with McLaren and Honda. If they would have been Williams level this year next would have been really interesting. They're going to struggle next though.

Doubtful he would get a Merc seat and the others aren't likely to challenge them for the championship any more or less than Mclaren next year or the year after, which is what he is after.

If he wanted a safe seat, he'd stayed at Ferrari.

There won't be any token upgraded engines any more. This year was a glitch due to an error in the rules.

From 2016 onwards there will be one spec of each engine that's used by all teams for the whole year. Same as 2014.

I see RB staying with Renault for 2016. Beyond that, who knows.

Anyway.. waiting to read the team radio transcript for this race :)

No link, just speculation.

RB have announced their intention to leave Renault but there's been no official confirmation. Plus, Ferrari and Merc have snubbed them, which leaves Honda (lol) or bust.

I'm thinking RB will show up with a slightly improved Renault engine in 2016 and choose to go in a different direction for 2017.

RBR have served notice to terminate their Renault supply from the end of this year, and Renault have accepted. That's been confirmed. Renault have also publicly stated that if they compete in F1 next year it will be as team owners with no engine customers.

Mercedes have said no, flat out.

Ferrari have said yes to STR and no to RBR, but Red Bull have confirmed they will not run the teams on different suppliers.

And Honda have said no, they are supplying just McLaren until 2017 at the earliest.

As we currently stand RBR have no confirmed engines for 2016 and no offers of any, and STR have no confirmed engines but an offer from Ferrari.

I was under the impression that the Honda single supplier deal was for one year only. Perhaps they can't give the thing away to anyone else!?

I too thought it was for one year only. Honda could do far worse than supply 3 good teams on the grid. I think they've already ruled it out for 2016 though.

Yeah I think they had an agreement to only supply McLaren this year, but that doesn't mean they will supply anyone else. They have confirmed no customers until 2017 at the earliest.

Still not planning on admitting that you were posting rubbish about the MotoGP lap records then deuse? :p

Ah well. For the sake of the sanity of everyone else on here, I'll drop it.

For now.
