Russian Grand Prix 2015, Sochi - Race 15/19

So, session over, Sainz isn't getting out of the car on his own accord so it's not good at all.

Edit: Carlos is moving, but I'd imagine his legs are broken if that armco is anything to go by.

Well they're reporting "provisional good news" which is promising.

Even though the car has clearly gone into the armco and even the railings behind, hopefully the front crash structure of the car has protected the driver as it should.

Nevertheless, that's a shocking failure of those barriers and questions will be asked.

Normally those Tecpro barriers work so well too - could it be a side effect of the lower noses that now a car can effectively lift the barriers and end up underneath them at high speed?

Good point, thinking to myself 'going into a wall at 250km/hr must break your legs', but I'd imagine the monocoque is designed to survive that.

Kubica had a sprained ankle after his Canada shunt, so hopefully the same for Sainz.

I think Ted saying provisionally good was utterly insane by him. He said provisionally good.... then reasoned if he was concious or not this is how they get people out of the car. Honestly Ted should be punched for that. While yes, even if he was fine it could appear worse because of the methods of getting a driver out... that is in no way an indication that is what is happening.

Saying that even if he's okay it could take this long to get him out is fine, saying "provisionally good news" based on that reasoning is exceptionally misleading.

EDIT:- I'm referring to the first time he said this like 5 mins before anyone knew he was concious. He was saying provisionally good with absolutely zero indication of good news.

Locked front left, either Sainz's fault or some kinda brake failure, turned him into the wall, broke the front tire/suspension, rear left slapped into the wall and broke as well, complete passenger up to the impact.

Very glad he was able to give the thumbs up and more is the guy discussing if he'll take part in qualifying as it suggests there is no obvious pain/problems.

It's not out of the woods, head injuries in particular can take time to develop. Brain swelling is the problem, you can take a hit, be concious then brain swelling takes time and 30 mins later start to cause problems.

Being airlifted to hospital now, which isn't necessarily a bad sign at all. I would think they want some scans and to check on him properly. Honestly once you realise there probably isn't time to fix the car anyway why take the risk, go to hospital and get checked over ultra thoroughly.

Hasn't it already been confirmed that telemetry data showed no braking issues? Perhaps i'm mistaken but it was suggested that even though DRS was closed, it may have done so a little late which has unsettled the rear going in to the corner.

I'm probably wrong though :)
