Russian Grand Prix 2015, Sochi - Race 15/19

He mentioned the tire in the way that indicated he was surprised by the slower tire lap this year being faster than the fastest tire last year. He forgot it was medium/soft last year and soft/supersoft this year.

The tyres, nor the tyre pressures are the same as last year. Yes, they're the same colour, that doesn't make them the same.

What is the technology that captures these precise qualifying laptimes? Is it sensors built into the start line of the grid that records the times as soon as they drive over it?

Yep, every car, the start line, grid spots and DRS activation as well as detection points all have sensors in the track.

Thanks Joe, I've been wondering about this for ages; it's the only way they could possibly get laptimes right down to a 1/1000 of a second. I guess it's kind of like Hawkeye then.

Awesome laptime from Lewis.

Oh damn, Rosberg just bettered him.

Why would they be blanked? All they've done is... Won. They're not exactly going to stop doing that.

Ecclestone rumored to be cutting TV coverage for them because they won't supply engines to Red Bull, certainly seemed the case in the last Grand Prix.

It categorically was last race, regardless of excuses for it. THe race was pretty dull and relatively fine to ignore them but the lack of Merc coverage in qualifying was insane. Compared to last week Merc were covered far more here. Though that might be helped by Rosberg fighting with Button for over half a warm up lap for no apparent reason.

Brundle also being a tad silly with Mclaren hyping again, maybe now Button is staying they want to talk up Mclaren again. Apparently only being half a second behind Kvyat is solid progress, even though they were half a second behind 10th in both Singapore and Japan in Q2 also... so precisely where they've been for ages is another word for that, Monza they were 1.5 seconds down on 10th at a bigger power track

I think they are just being more even in coverage.

Should help the other teams in getting sponsors.

ell know, Bernie himself said that they will show those raving, so unless Mercedes race each other they'll have low coverage.
And actually I agree with him, lots of racing through the rest of the field AMD that's what should be shown.

And boooooooo..

I hate to be that guy but that qualifying was nothing short of anticlimactic.

I was on the phone and missed some of it. Did Lewis have a car issue? Because he pitted way before the end of Q3.

Went off at turn 13 (the bit after the second DRS zone), ended his lap and called it a day.
