Russian SU-24 - Shot Down by Turkey

Considering that Erdogan is Putin-lite, your argument is hilarious. Furthermore, no one will teach the Turks anything, particulary no Russians as Turkey is part of a military alliance with a strength about 100 times greater than the most powerful competitor.. At worst, they will get scolded in secret by the Americans.

100 times?

why not 1 billion times?

Good luck convincing public opinion go and die for Turkish interests in the region, particulary ISIS oil smuggling , refugee trade etc

10 times, typo.

I don't care about public opinion, I just enjoy seeing Putin fan boys in action. Also, I may be be wrong but I recall a similar username with similar views but an older account. Did you get banned?

Yeah thats me, i dont know if i got banned, i can still login but my account is awaiting activation, i have sent a dozen of emails to ocuk but no reply so far, i have even made a thread about it,still nothing. i hope someone sees this reply and have a look at it, i tried to change my contact email and since then i cant use the forums with my old nickname, hence i made this one, shame really since i have been here for 12 years like.

BTW i am not a putin fan, i just laugh at Turkish hypocrisy and i believe the russkies have the truth on their side, with or without putin i would still support them. Also, since erdogan is putin-alike why is the west rush in to support him, just because its a nato ally? Turkey is using NATO to its own interests, its not a reliable ally at all, imho

Sorry to read that, hope it clears up.

Do the Russian people really care about Syria? I think they're a lot more concerned about their economy contracting at 5% per year.. The West supports Erdogan for the same reason it supports Saudi Arabia or Pakistan, interest convergence. Ideally, the West should only support democracies, free speech, respect of human rights etc. but we don't live in an ideal world, do we?
Turkey is far from perfect but it's definitely the lesser evil compared to the other players in the region.

I believe Russia probably did short cut over the border of Turkey. Were Turkey right to attack, I don't think so.

Russia gave the dead pilot a prestigious honour and no doubt hush money to the family so that the family of a 'hero' never press for a full investigation to find out whether they were ordered to cross the border or not.

Turkeys hands are filthy dirty in this supporting rebels actively. As are the UK and US.

Assume this; if you were a Turkish pilot and said aircraft had locked onto you for 4-5 minutes and had been tracked on a course to breach your airspace and you had no idea what country it was from because those are used by a few.. what do you do?

We will never know what actually happened, every news source is full of agendas and misinformation, nobody will admit wrong doing but in your opinion would that change with the above encounter? Because some places say that happened.

I stay out of believing one side or another because we are not the ones to actually know.

Well I wouldn't like to be the next Turkish plane to stray over the border...especially if the reports are true of the weapon systems being mobilised to the border by Russia. It certainly wouldn't take much to kick off, and it is a shame that NATO would have to get involved.
Why can't we all fight against the common enemy, ISIS must be loving this.

Does the Su-24 have Air to Air radar?

Nate

Virtually all planes have a nose radar (for weather etc). The main issue is tracking if anything has locked onto you behind using active radar.

If it was a sidewinder missile then it's actually infrared so the F16 would have to be behind it to get a good heat signature. It also means it tends to be fired from behind.. the warhead actually fires a wire out radially from the direction of travel. The sidewinder doesn't actively ping the target itself using radar but it does infrared for proximity.. It's cheap hence it's wide use.

Initial Su-24s had basic electronic countermeasures (ECM) equipment, with many Su-24s limited to the old Sirena radar-warning receiver with no integral jamming system. Later-production Su-24s had more comprehensive radar warning, missile-launch warning, and active ECM equipment, with triangular antennas on the sides of the intakes and the tip of the vertical fin. This earned the NATO designation "Fencer-C", although again it did not have a separate Soviet designation. Some "Fencer-C" and later Su-24M ("Fencer-D" by NATO) have large wing fence/pylons on the wing glove portion with integral chaff/flare dispensers; others have such launchers scabbed onto either side of the tail fin.

So as a bomber it's got radar eyes.. so probably not blind to the fact of an incoming F16.. but may not have seen the missile if it was a heat seeker rather than an active radar.
