Ryan's Headphone Review Thread

Unfortunately yeah, have not advertised them yet though. If it wasn't for the upper mid peak I would keep them. There's still part of me that wants to keep them though as they are amazing in every other aspect.

hi, just a quick one.. im looking for a pair of headphones to replace my hd518's. I need to go to closed back now. Anyway after reading loads of reviews i was edging toward the dt770 but then i saw the akg k550. Both seem ok and within my budget. There are so many headphones that it is just a minefield for a novice like me. Im not a audio file so i understand that for the money ive got im going to get a certain level. I do like bass but dont want to just get a heavy bass set just for that reason if i can get a good overall mix. i could do with some serious help and my birthday is fast approching ..cheers guys.

The K550 is a dry, detailed and tizzy sounding headphone. It's spacious due to the thinner notes with a good extended bass. I'd pick the DT770 over them though.

I'd recommend the K271 as it'd quite balanced with really good mids. Other headphones to look for are the A900x and Skull Candy Aviator. Both are warm and musical.

only just noticed this thread, im not around here a lot normally, great opening post though ryan. well done. i know just how much time review writing takes so must have taken you a goodly while.

Really appreciate the reply. Like I said I'm a novice in this area and only by reading reviews can I decide what to do .I said in my post that the DT 770 seemed to suit what I want but then you offer other alternatives . How do the otheheadphones compare to the DT 770 .By the way my headphones will mostly only be used on my PC and I'm running a sound blaster z.

The K271 is more mid focused, lighter sounding and a tad more detailed. Vocals sound more forward and intimate on the 271. The DT770 is more explosive and speaker like, better imaging and superior bass.

The A900x is probably a better all around headphone with a more detailed and balanced presentation. The 770 is more V shaped with more bass but it can get loose sounding. I like the A900x better but only slightly. The 770 is always a good alternative though but a different flavour.

Aviators are lighter, more balanced but less refined. I'd say they are in the same league as the 770 but a few spots below. The Aviator is detailed, nice mids and tone but the 770 is more detailed, better bass and slightly more fun.

I like them all a lot.

Not sure if this has been asked before, so I'm just gonna ask :)

I kinda need to get some new headphones for use with my computer and stuff, as I can't listen to my speakers later on at night now that I've moved house :/

I've kinda narrowed my choices down to the sort of price range of the dt770s/990s etc and was just wondering which ones would be better for my usage?

I want some good headphones for gaming/movies and shows etc/music, in terms of music I listen to hip hop a lot, so I was looking for headphones with some bass (doesn't need to be huge amounts (but my very good sounding superlux hd681s have relatively low amounts of bass for most of my music, although I'd probably use them more if they weren't so uncomfortable after a while))

One of my big requirements is comfort, I have a pair of sennheiser pc350s that are relatively old, but they have the velour pads on them and after a few minutes I can forget that I have them on, so ultimately as close to that as possible (my vengeance 2000s get close to that but are a bit too heavy to make them really comfy)

Setup wise, I have a Fiio e07k that I'd connect the headphones up to that I'll end up buying. I was also considering getting an astro mixamp or whatever to pair up with the Fiio if that'd be a good idea?

Any help is appreciated :D

Once again thanks for the advice Ryan. I must admit I do like some bass in my ear so I've took the plunge and just ordered the DT 770 pro 80 and got them for what I hope is a good price of £103 .....many thanks once again..cheers

Sorry man, these sold. I should have mentioned it. I'm considering selling my B&W P7. Easy to drive, nice treble and bass! Really clean sounding headphone. They are spotless and have about 9 hours on them. Only selling if I can get about £230 for them as I really do like them.

Am looking into getting either the AKG Annie's, K712. Or the Senn HD 600/650.
Just can't seen to decide on anything.
