Ryzen "2" ?

I used to be that way too,until I got onto Core2 and my 975X SFF rig,first had a Pentium D,then a Core2 Duo and then a Core2 Quad. Lasted nearly 5 years,and I have been on socket 1155 since 2011.I have been on a Xeon E3 1230 V2 since 2014 IIRC.
I upgrade cause like messing with new hardware. What else would I spend money on ?? Car parts I dont need and drugs. But since on detox leves me with car parts or pc parts both are waste of money anyway :D.

At lest with Pc i can learn something more and get to know new stuff better :)

That Gigabyte board is really good looking piece of kit.

Did Thailand for 2 weeks in November - definitely worth deferring a PC build for - fantastic place!

Glad you enjoyed it. My biggest problem is the huge amount of places I want to visit so 2 weeks is not enough. Choosing an itinerary is going to be hard as dont want to spend too long traveling between places.
Current plan is Bangkok for 3 nights then up to Kanchanaburi for 2 nights then down to Pattaya mainly for the Temple of Truth as Im not into drinking so the night life is not a big attraction and from there I will go to one of the islands for a week in a 5 star resort to relax and unwind.

I have mostly SFF PCs now,so its more of a pain to keep taking parts out. In the past I used to upgrade much more often - I still remember having an AGP 6800LE,which I managed to double the number of active shader units by unlocking it,and it the performance jump was massive,or overclocking a CPU by over 70% and so on.

At some point I might try and get one of these cases:

Its really small.

I just sell old get new with my maximum 20 month old rule. Always selling still on warranty after 290x died 6 weeks after warranty.....

Same happened with Ryzen 1, to be fair. AMD said "Woo!" and people threw their wallets across the interweb because all in on red.

Apparently nobody remembers Bulldozer launch...

And a year later Ryzen 1 is still selling very well (but it's not for you - nor is Ryzen+ either). :p

Not long now, 2700X baby !! Now I just need a suitable GPU, none of that Nvidia filth xD. So VEGA 64 I guess??

All though I hate to put money Nvidias way I cant justify the cost, heat and power of the Vega over an 1080 or 1080 Ti. one of the main reasons I want a new system is the 290X I currently have is like having a heater on full when I am gaming leading to my room being like an oven in the summer months.

I'm just not happy at all, that I switched my Corsair Vengeance ram which was semi stable at 3066Mhz (1 hard crash in 6 months) for the 8 Pack 3200MHz ram (I wanted to 100% fix my ram issue) and that too simply is unstable at 3200MHz with my 1700.

Cheap way to fix this is buy a 2700x and hope that my 8 Pack ram will run with DOCP no issues.

But I am leaning hard towards the 8700k at the moment.

I've kind of had enough.

LOL - I would always prefer to back AMD over Nvidia, but it is hard to see how to justify a Vega 64 against a 1080ti... although it seems likely that we are going to see a Vega refresh on the 12nm+ node sooner rather than later... so possibly a 2700x and hold out for a little longer?

-edit- Actually just checked and now the Vega 64 is at 638GBP, so it is sitting a bit above the 1080 but significantly south of the 1080ti price wise.

Obviously the whole segment is still massively expensive but that doesn't seem that unreasonable comparatively.

I'm not sure why anyone is placing pre orders.

Wait for it to launch, read reviews then make an informed decision.

People who are desperate for the product will part with money to get that little bit closer to the real thing.

Game developers are really cashing in on that kind of behaviour. Selling games in beta for example.

It's almost entirely luxury purchases so a good reason doesn't even need to come into it.

As long as the difference in cost after selling your current system is affordable then go for it.

Has to be something going on with your system. So many people have bought and used the 8 pack ram with it working flawlessly out the box.

Unless you have a real dog of a CPU with an absolutely awful IMC... :/

That's exactly the case. I have the same problem with my CPU, and it's the reason im upgrading to the 2700X. Not for the little extra performance increase, but also for the extra performance gained from being able to run my memory faster, and also the ability to turn my system on and have it boot first time, every time. That's what im hoping for the most.

I have no issues with my 3200 8 pack ram, just have to select his profile from the bios and not input my own like i used to.(Just seems wierd trusting the auto profile when i was so used to setting my own up, saying that i could not get em to work @3200 till i used his profile)
