Ryzen "2" ?

That isn't SFX ;) that is standard ATX size. 150x150x86mm or close too. The standard SFX is 125x100x63.5mm but only Silverstone & Lian Li produce them and I have been burnt before with those and their build quality so if Seasonic or Superflower came out with something then I would jump on that tbh.

Ah ok, its actually my PSU, it is quite compact, hard to imagine them even smaller, i'm not sure who its made by, i think its Seasonic.

I think it's defo worth it. The 1700 at 3.8GHz is night and day difference in game to it at stock.

And out the box the 2700x should be as fast as that without even any overclocks.

I have the same Cpu and board with g-skill flare X 3200, which is probably the same b-die ram sticks.

ram worked fine at xmp settings with the cpu clocked at 3.95.

It does sound like you just have a dud cpu.

All though I hate to put money Nvidias way I cant justify the cost, heat and power of the Vega over an 1080 or 1080 Ti. one of the main reasons I want a new system is the 290X I currently have is like having a heater on full when I am gaming leading to my room being like an oven in the summer months.

Use iChill during browsing and gaming and the power draw can drop by 150W or more. Fantastic bit of AMD software. Activate it in the GLOBAL GAMING SETTINGS section https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/DH-020.aspx

Can't believe not everyone uses it, that has a new AMD card.

Is it actually implemented with every new game from the start? I saw that at release 5xx series and it looked quite cool, just wasn't sure how future of it is gonna look.

Not to say this has anything to do with your particular problems but; To quote Robert Hallock when explaining Ryzen overclocking good practice.

"Don't go over 1.425v on the V-Core, it will greatly reduce the longevity of the CPU"
"you'd better be running LN2 if you go over 60 Ohms on the memory"
"More than 1.2v on the SoC is not safe"

Personally i don't like the idea of many hours on Prime95 much above stock volts, Intel users turn off AVX instruction set's when they do that because it fries the CPU's, i don't know if you can turn AVX instruction sets off on Ryzen?

I'll try to find his video again....

opethdisciple most overclocking guides I read state that ram and cpu overclocking combined can and often causes instability, they should be done independently, usually cpu first on intel, but a few guides suggest doing ram first on AMD.

So get ram stable first with cpu at stock clocks, then work the cpu up until things lose stability, then take the cpu back down again.

Also in my experience a PC just rebooting itself is not a RAM problem, same with hardlocks, thats a CPU or power delivery problem problem. Ram problems usually just crash an app or give a BSOD.

Sounds like you over complicated things just switching the ram like that, so start again, and the end result is you probably going have to settle on a lower cpu clock.

It "used to be stable" but not now could easily be voltage degradation on the chip.

I appreciate the feedback back. However voltage degradation after just 1 year running at 1.35v?

I thought Ryzen was safe for 24/7 up to 1.4v.

Take the battery out of the board for a proper CMOS reset, give it at least 5 minutes with the battery out, i've had to do that a couple of times when first fine tuning my overclocks, sometimes just F5'ing the BIOS or even jumping the CMOS doesn't fully reset it.

Edit: Also turn the PSU off. :)

Anyway.

This should be required viewing for any Ryzen owners :)

Why would I need Chill during browsing? The GPU is barely used at all. I don't use it during gaming either because I want my card to pump out as many frames as it can; that's the whole reason I bought a FreeSync monitor.

Well to qoute the same source, Robert Hallock mentions Prime 95 as a good stability tester for Ryzen.

Just ordered the 2700X from OCUK, looking forward to testing this lil beast out. Stumped over what to do for a GPU though, I literally will never buy from Nvidia again. Already had a VEGA, so I guess I gotta wait for something new from AMD.... Ugh...

Then i refer to said expert, because he is. :)

nVidia's decision making management are Sociopaths, Sociopaths BTW do actually make the best CEO's because they lack that human instinct that stops the rest of us going over the top when it comes to lying, cheating, stealing, manipulating people and all of those traits where our empathy stops us from wronging others to much, its why in this gender politics world still not many woman are CEO's, IMO Jensen Huang and the people he surrounds himself with are Sociopaths.

Your Empathy for AMD is commendable but remember they don't owe you anything, i like AMD as a company and i have a lot of respect for the people who work there but the GTX 1070 is a much better GPU than the Vega56, i will support AMD in many ways but i'm not going to spend my cash on inferior products as a way to support them, there are actually better ways to do it.

Ryzen on the other-hard, i would argue right now are the best CPU's in price category, about to get even better. :)

Will be checking this out myself when I get home from work, thanks!

I would disagree about VEGA 56 being inferior to GTX 1070, I've used all the current cards. Prob every card ever made lol. Can honestly say that I prefer VEGA 56 to 1070 and prefer VEGA 64 to GTX 1080. It's a shame AMD never countered the 1080 Ti, but it is what it is.

The 1080 Ti is an absolute beast. However have developed a real hatred for Nvidia and their smug CEO xD. So I am limited to AMD, not out of compassion for AMD, but rather an absolute dislike of Nvidia. Maybe Intel can enter the GPU space and do the customer right? Pfft will never happen.

But really look at this guy .... This is an actual photo he did, (except the corner bit xD)

Yup, Nvidia will not get a penny from me, just like Apple lol.

Tempted by the new Ryzens, but not sure. At the moment seem only to be able to get 3.8GHz out of my 1600, which is fine, but I'm mostly gaming on it so I feel like better IPC / higher clocks that the 2600X might bring could be worthwhile. Or I could go all in for the 2700 / 8 cores. Not sure whether it's worth it.

Yeah V56 is not inferior to a 1070.... its by far the best card AMD have and alongside the 1080ti one of the few video cards of this generation that actually make sense.

+1 i would happily ditch my Zotac 1070 Amp Extreme for a Vega 56 Nitro or something, would love Freesync back for when i actually do bother to PC game.
