I am no enthusiast,know nothing of the inner workings of a cpu etc. But this is the exact point most gamers should take away from this. Bottlenecks,clockspeed's,bickering about brands and minutiae do not matter to most gamers outside tech forums. I think hotwired pretty much sums it all up there.... either will do the job fine.
Ryzen still struggles in certain situations in certain games though. The extremely low combined scores in Firestrike are still proof of that.
I'd like to see someone on a 2000 series who owns Destiny 2 do to the rig public event on titan, especially in the rain, and see how FPS drops there. I was down to 55fps on a 1600. My 8600k was more than double that in the same situation. Look one way, hit the fps cap, look the other way, plummet into the 50s.
