Ryzen 3 pricing from OCUK

Sometimes cheaper to do it twice. I'm planning to get the 3600 for about £190 then in a few years time I'll upgrade it to a 3900X when they're obsolete for around £100. I dont need the extra cores right now in 2019 but it will be a good upgrade path in years to come.

Dunno, even the 1800X isn't £100 second hand. Been way over 2 years now.

realistically you arent going to own a 3900x in your time frame for what you think.period. even 5 years down the road i can maybe see it being more than that. in 5 years time that will be slow. chips might of quadroupled in speed by then.

this is the strategy amd has you thinking. also look at the mobos and issues. many here have fell into this trap with older motheroards. some of those many wont fully support running higher end cpus. vrms overheating but buy into the idea that we can drop in a high end cpu when needed in few years time. just buy once. do it properly. then upgrade to whole new platform.

you will have a better experience with less headache. very rarely if ever over the time frame you own your pc components is it worth buying twice. the reason is simple with updated hardware it often will be double what you have by then in speed. by then rams faster cpus faster ssds faster and you buying old tech to hang in. just not worth it.

As you say, it depends (a) how much you want that last 10% of performance which is normally not cost effective, and (b) how long you intend to keep your system for. It also depends on which board you buy - I feel like there's a higher chance of the motherboard manufacturer putting some effort into optimising Zen 2 with a flagship X470 board than with a B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC, for example. If I was buying for a "casual" user though, I'd for sure go with an MSI B450 board and either an R5 2600 or R5 3600 depending on the performance difference when reviews hit.

All pricing shall be live Sunday along with ordering and OcUK pricing shall be at guideline pricing, no additional markup or gouging as its put but if then afterwards supply is crazy short or hard to source the pricing could indeed increase days/weeks after launch, just giving you a fair warning and heads up.

What time does pricing go live?

Can't wait. So glad I waited the extra 5 months for Ryzen 3000 although it has meant having to reduce ingame settings etc for the last few months.

I can’t wait either. Got a real horrible feeling that I’m gonna miss out on the initial batch though as they're looking so popular.

LOL. Thats exactly what retailers WANT you to think. There will be no short supply with Ryzen. Fear not. Lets not get carried away with ourselves here. It's not like these chips offer double the gaming performance of Intel. They have literally just caught up. They will be popular but they wont sell out.

3900 is outperforming the 9900.

Sorry? Yes, in SOME titles. Anyway, you are splitting hairs. My point is they are "similar". ergo. Not double the performance or something else that will cause them to insta sell-out.

If you're getting same performance today but with 4 extra cores for cheaper (or same) then it'll scale better into the future. Even if the 9900k is mildly ahead, the 3900x is still a better buy. This coming form a 9900k owner btw.

I totally agree. Im not saying Intel is better lol.
Im just saying don't worry about stock levels for Ryzen!! People need to not give retailers excuses to gouge!

People need to expand beyond their tribal nature and take advantage of a global marketplace. Look for deals in different regions and not just the 2-3 retailers you know about.

After all, these aren't custom units that give you some magic tuning benefits from a known source.

I agree people should look elsewhere but for new products the price more or less the same globally now, the only different is that some places don't have VAT.
