Yeah getting a bit long in the tooth now. £300 is a tricky spot now. I don't mind the 5600x but you'd probably want an 8-core cpu these days considering the consoles have 8-core and that's probably what games will be optimised for. You hang on and wait for a 5700 or go third gen Ryzen.I have 4690k right now. Starting to show it's age as you can imagine. I game at 4k/60hz & 1080p/144hz with a 2080. Got two monitors 4k and a 1080p/144hz one.

I mean, lets be honest. It seems unrealistic its gonna be the mad rush like the 3080 release was. Im still having flashbacks.
Are people still actually contemplating buying an Intel cpu in 2020?
Just curious as to why anyone is considering the 5600X when consoles will have more cores for gaming builds?
Same reason the 3600 is better than the 2700x for gaming currently. 6c/12t is still going to be fantastic for gaming for many many years. Doesn't matter what consoles do.
Sort of does....I would all ways buy a gaming cpu with the same or more cores than a console...
It doesn't though. PS4 had 8 cores, yet we know 6 cores has been great for games.
And new games will be coded to support 8 cores...it’s not very hard to understand the concept...

But with that theory, a 6 core CPU after 2014 when the PS4 was launched wouldn't be good. But we know 6 cores have been excellent with games as higher clock speed still helps a lot with FPS.
As stated already, in 2019 a 3600x 6 core is better than a 2700x 8 core in gaming.
You could for a long time buy a Ryzen 3600 for £140 - £150, which is about half what the 5600X is currently.
Recent shortages pushed prices up, and I also doubt anyone right now will be buying a 3600 for £200 after the AMD event and pending release.

I already have a 3600, a 2600x and a 1600x before it, would seem a bit daft to get another 6 core now when some games are already using 8 cores
I'll wait it out for the 5700X I think, if it ever shows itself
I don’t think it will....
