RYZEN 5000 SERIES NOW ONLINE - 5950X, 5900X, 5800X & 5600X COMING NOV 5TH AT 5PM **NO COMPETITORS**

I have 4690k right now. Starting to show it's age as you can imagine. I game at 4k/60hz & 1080p/144hz with a 2080. Got two monitors 4k and a 1080p/144hz one.
Yeah getting a bit long in the tooth now. £300 is a tricky spot now. I don't mind the 5600x but you'd probably want an 8-core cpu these days considering the consoles have 8-core and that's probably what games will be optimised for. You hang on and wait for a 5700 or go third gen Ryzen.

It's weird that AMD raised prices by £50+ across the board as taking into account current gen processors, assuming a 20% jump in performance and comparing against Intel equivalents they all look at least £50 overpriced to me.

Guess I'll reserve judgement until we see independent benchmarks but AMD must be seriously confident in the performance of these chips given the pricing?

This +1. If I upgrade I'd definitely want an 8 core model to make sure console ports run smoothly.

The pricing of the 5800X is steep though! You could probably get a 3900 with 12 cores for that money. I wonder how the performance of those parts will compare.

I mean, lets be honest. It seems unrealistic its gonna be the mad rush like the 3080 release was. Im still having flashbacks.

It won't be anywhere near as bad as the 3080 launch. Nvidia GPU's are far more impactful on performance and have much higher bragging rights than a CPU does. Nvidia also attracts the raving football hooligan type for some reason - just take a look at the attitudes/patience of the thousands of new posters in the GPU forum, threatening legal/physical every 5 minutes if their GPU doesn't get delivered in the next 5 minutes....

Just curious as to why anyone is considering the 5600X when consoles will have more cores for gaming builds?

Same reason the 3600 is better than the 2700x for gaming currently. 6c/12t is still going to be fantastic for gaming for many many years. Doesn't matter what consoles do.

Not sure if any of you are totally unaware with the shenannigans going on with the Ampere RTX 3000 series GPU launch and how customers are totally in the dark.

I recommend you head over to the Graphics Cards subforum before you make a choice on if you should pre-order a Zen3 CPU. (if and when that day comes)

And new games will be coded to support 8 cores...it’s not very hard to understand the concept...:p

But with that theory, a 6 core CPU after 2014 when the PS4 was launched wouldn't be good. But we know 6 cores have been excellent with games as higher clock speed still helps a lot with FPS.

As stated already, in 2019 a 3600x 6 core is better than a 2700x 8 core in gaming.

You could for a long time buy a Ryzen 3600 for £140 - £150, which is about half what the 5600X is currently.

Recent shortages pushed prices up, and I also doubt anyone right now will be buying a 3600 for £200 after the AMD event and pending release.

£150 for the 3600 was rarely available at best.

I already have a 3600, a 2600x and a 1600x before it, would seem a bit daft to get another 6 core now when some games are already using 8 cores

I'll wait it out for the 5700X I think, if it ever shows itself

If building a new system I'd just take the hit and but 5000 series and sit on it for years. If coming from a previous gen Ryzen I'd wait it out for prices to stabilise. My 3700X is plenty for my needs for now but I do fancy a 12 or 16 core chip eventually. I can wait until AM5 launches for that.
