I'm debating either the 5900x or the 5950x. I have a 3090 on order so at this point I'm leaking money... so thinking of going all out and hoping this build will last longer than my usual 5-year upgrade schedule.

If I decide to get a 5900x my 3700x will be for saleIve decided to get a used zen2 when they start hitting MM. It means I don't have to upgrade my mobo.
Yep...So let me get this straight - I can get a 3900X for £400, or a 5900X for £530. My maths may be a bit rusty but that's a lot more than the £50 gap AMD were talking about.

Yes,It doesn't though. PS4 had 8 cores, yet we know 6 cores has been great for games.

I'm finely poised between waiting for a runout deal on Zen 2 and reaching up to get a hot new Zen 3.
Value is so important, but the gaming gains on Zen 3 are exactly what I was hoping for... Argh! lolI think there are many of us in that same position! Currently leaning towards the 2nd option, though...
Not sure that matters today, unless the 5900X comes with a time machine. I appreciate your point, but the comparison doesn't match today's reality. The 3900x was 479 on release....do the Math...

Dead tech? Have they all stopped working? I must have missed that, fair enough. The reality is the 3900x on release was 50 cheaper than the 5900x....who cares what the 3900x cost now...it’s dead tech...

It's also an easy concept to grasp that people will focus on what's available at any one point in time when it comes to pragmatic comparisons.Last gen tech always drops in price over time...to compare the 3900x and the 5900x pricing you look at the release pricing...
Hell when Zen 4 hits the 5900x will drop in price...
this is a very easy concept to grasp...
Is this the last cpu thats for the 570 series mobo?
Is Zen4 going to be a new chipset?
Is Zen4 coming in 2021? If so it would be expensive now getting new chip and new board
