8/10 core Intel Comet Lake CPUs seem to have similar performance to the 6 core 5600x, at least in Cyberpunk 2077, see link:

Should I just buy a cheap 8/10 core Comet Lake instead?

The 5800x seems too pricy right now.

Also, does anyone know how high you can overclock Comet Lake's memory controller at a 1:1 ratio?

Can I run a Comet Lake CPU with 4000mhz DDR4 RAM?

At the current price of £330-£350 the 5600X is (extremely) poor value for money. But they keep selling out at that price so what you gonna do...

There was a "mis-price" a couple days back when they were going for £240. That's the price the damn things should be, imho. Gone in seconds, of course.

The places selling at <£300 (aka RRP) regularly haven't seen stock for days/weeks.

Can I run a 10700f or 10700kf on a Rocket Lake motherboard with DDR4 4000mhz RAM?

I've seen some websites testing DDR4 speeds on a Comet Lake 10600K. DDR4 @ 4000mhz came out on top in every game, link here:
https://www.purepc.pl/jaka-pamiec-ram-do-intel-core-i5-10600k-test-ddr4-2133-4000-mhz?page=0,17

Note - I've seen the Ryzen 5600X sold for ~£270

The good news is, even some B560 (Rocket Lake) motherboards seem to officially support some 4000mhz RAM modules, at least for Comet Lake CPUs. Example here:
https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/B560M-HDV/index.asp#MemoryCML

This wasn't the case for the B460 motherboards.

Yup I'm in no rush to get a 5600x till I can get one for £280 or the prices drop. 2600 @4.1GHz is still good for most gaming at 4k/1440P, only cyberpunk where it's showing its age now.

6 core for 300 + just is a joke. if you need something for gaming right now the 10700k is the one to get. they been at £250 many times recently. even at 300 they better value to the 5600x. literally same performance with the extra cores.

I need some advice about DDR4 4 4000mhz RAM + Comet Lake please, as I'm ready to buy a new system now.

Will it work in a Rocket Lake board (B460 B560) that supports DDR4 4000mhz modules, with the memory controller at full speed?

I've got my eye on a pre-owned i7-10700KF...

While the ram will work the speed would be limited in a B460 to 2933 with a K chip or 2666 with a non K chip.

Ok thanks. Does DDR4 4000mhz only work in Z series boards then?

Corrected - Why do some B560 boards list DDR4 4000 module support?

I've heard that the Comet Lake memory controller /IMC can handle DDR 4 4000mhz, perhaps higher with some module configs, is this true?

According to a TechPowerUp article, Comet Lake has "Native support for DDR4-2933 and higher memory clocks across the board: up to DDR4-4000 for two dual-rank modules, over DDR4-4800 for two single-rank modules". Link:

Apparently, with Intel generations older than Rocket Lake, such as Comet Lake and Coffee Lake, the memory controller always ran at a 1:1 ratio, quote here: "Gears refer to the frequency ratio between the memory controller and memory itself, which has historically been 1:1 on Intel parts."

Can someone confirm this is the case on Comet Lake CPUs please?

Agreed, no 6 core CPU should cost more than 230 in 2021

I'm sure you can run 4000+ on the new 11th gen CPUs and I would guess you can also with i7/9 10th gen but I'm not 100% sure on this.

You can run 4000mhz on 11th gen but only with the IMC on 1/2:1 and close to 60ns latency which would be a far cry from the low 40ns you'd have on 10th gen.

Don't waste your money on 4000mhz ram if you are going to use an 11th gen CPU. Just buy good 3200mhz ram

I don't really regard it as overclocking, RAM can be rated to run at 4000mhz (higher in some cases). It's operating beyond the officlal JEDEC DDR4 spec, but that's not a problem in my opinion.

DDR4 is quite affordable at 4000mhz at £100 or less, also Alder Lake (10nm desktop CPUs) will reportedly use DDR4 on low/mid end motherboards too.
