Ryzen 5600x vs 10700KF /10900KF

Not to detract from the rest of your post but why would you plan to put yourself on a 12 month upgrade cycle?

I felt a little bad trying to justify upgrading after 4 years, if it's just 12 months, just save your money and wait.

Don't know, ask the people who do it maybe?

My point was that if you must upgrade so often, now that we are no longer in CPU stagnation hell of the 2010's, then spending less more often = better performance for more of the time, while spending roughly the same over the 3, 4, 5 year period.

I know some people whom upgrade that often because they just like having the latest and greatest and regardless of the % increase will always do a completely new CPU, Mobo & GPU yearly at minimum. Just peoples choice. They know returns are awful on price paid to performance increase but if it's what they enjoy let them have at. My last upgrade was 7 years in making to current. I do expect this to only last maybe 3 years mind with the touted performances numbers for next gen and changes with PCIE, DDR etc. So will likely be a CPU, Mobo & RAM upgrade then.

Who really upgrades when they absolutely need to these days? You very rarely see cars with rust all over anymore for example? Who needs another 20bhp? But people do because they want to and can afford it (hopefully). Tv’s are another one, I’m still on a Qled from 2018, and this is rare for me because I used to upgrade every year or so. It’s just nice, not necessarily needed.

I like buying new hardware for the tinkering more that anything, overclocking etc. Some people buy paintings for silly amounts, do they need them? No, but who are we to judge.

I am one of the “idiots” that bought a 10900k and will probably upgrade next year depending on what happens with Intel and AMD, then choose based on what’s best.

Personally I think Intel should have just left it at the 9900k and then brought out something substantial like what Alder Lake is hoped to be this or early next year.

It’s not for people to always question “do you need to?” Unless of course someone is asking for your opinion based on a budget.

Potentially game developing might start to make more use of 8/16 given the cpu in the latest consoles. If that happens the 10700k might be the better long term buy. Personally I went for a 5600x as I wanted a lower power cpu that was easier to cool in a SFF case

Haha, no 8 core Rocket Lakes are not good value. Nor is the 5800X, it's as simple as that.

It doesn't bode well for Alder Lake pricing.

6 core Rocket Lake CPUs are OK value, but probably aren't an improvement on Comet Lake.

Intel still got Comet Lakes to sell :p

I definitely agree that many new console to PC ports will be (/are) optimized for 8 CPU cores. Cyberpunk 2077 for example. And Resident Evil VII. I'm sure there are many more.

Lol, I love the crap some sites/sellers are pulling.

One vendor, who I will not be buying from any time soon, has the 5600x on "limited special offer" price, still £20 above RRP. But they are "out of stock".

There is then a link to say, "We do have stock at a higher price, would you like to see it?" and it takes you to another page where they have dozens in stock for £70 over RRP :p

Stuff like that cheeses me off so much I will simply avoid that vendor in future.
