Saying that going monolithic would be going "backwards" sounds more like a fanboy defending his team's current approach rather than a defendable assertion.
It would be going backwards for amd's pockets. Now why users are interested in amd's financials, I have no idea, but it's quite common with a specific brand :D

You hit scaling and cost walls with those types of architecture and the result is underperforming expensive chips, that’s only remedy is push power use to gain performance.

If the goal is to build slow, expensive and power hungry chips, those types of designs are great, but without silicon stacking or some technological breakthroughs, you run into a dead end like Intel.

I can think of one company that builds the end game of monolithic designs and it’s power use is measured in the kilowatts range.
Intel has node issues that TSMC has thus far been able to avoid.

A monolithic 5nm or possibly 3nm design would probably perform a lot differently than what Intel is making do with on inferior processes.

Some updated benchmarks from SOTTR. With the initial tune the X3D was 15% faster than my tuned 7950X. That has now increased to 21% after further tuning, crazy average CPU FPS numbers. I still need to rerun Far Cry 6 and Horzion Zero Dawn I've not had time to try yet. After that will be Cyberpunk and Toms diner probably.

Here is a tuned 13900K with 8533Mhz CL34 memory for comparison.
- 409 Average CPU FPS

7950X SOTTR 402 Average CPU FPS

7950X3D 462 Average CPU FPS

Further tuning 7950X3D 488 Average CPU FPS

And here's a 720P result just because I know folks love this res for CPU benches.

You forgot the 4k benchmarks. What were you thinking?

Hi there

Thought you guys deserved an update, I have been off past couple of days, celebrating the other half birthday so a nice fancy weekend for her.
I left instructions for the CPU's to be put live 2pm or later, unfortunately the CPU's got batched together with other products been uploaded by a PM and hence their early appearance, once the mistake was discovered they were pulled down and re-launched after 2pm as per original schedule.

7950X 3D - We only had a small batch which sold out in seconds, similar happened everywhere, this CPU been flagship is very popular. We expect more stock between mid-end March, so far we have pre-sold 100+ but I do have 500+ on back order which I placed during CES.
7900X 3D - We have these in stock still and are selling steadily, we don't expect these to sell out as we have far greater stock and several hundred more landing next week.

They went live at around 10:00 (?) and when I made my 7950X3D purchase at 10:20, it was still 'In Stock' (which I didn't get). If they sold out in seconds, surely there's hundreds in the queue?

Still running one CCX disabled? Or only for benchmarks?

It's the fastest configuration for benching. However, Cyberpunk is a different ball game so it might be beneficial in that one to have the second CCD enabled and tuned. I'll cross that bridge on the weekend probably when I have more time to tinker.

@LtMatt When you put the 4090 back in and do CP/Spider as we had been testing, LMK and I'll get some comparison points.

For X3D, Sottr, watch dogs and MSFS are going to be big wins with nothing close.
That would be a great comparison. A well tuned 13900k/ks vs 7950x 3d in games that are much closer than the usual one or two that favour one or the other more.

Well, Cyberpunk and Spiderman are two games that massively favour Intel if you look at the benchmarks, however the X3D has caught up somewhat so it will be interesting to see as it'll be worst case scenario for X3D.

this is of course very cool, but where is Warzone 2 ?)))

Fair enough. What do you think you'll do for 24/7 use (gaming etc) - leave the 2nd CCX enabled for background apps etc? That's what I'm planning at least.

I'll have the second CCD enabled, primarily for Football Manager. No other game I play uses more than 8 threads. COD by default can use 15, but you get better performance in COD by telling it to use 7 threads for 8 core or better CPUs.

I game at 4K anyway so whilst this 720P/1080P benching is fun whilst the tech is new to show off the CPU grunt, at 4K I could run it stock with memory at 4800Mhz CL60 and still be completely GPU bound in everything.

From the benchmarks I’ve seen the 7950x 3d was slightly faster than the 13900k in Cyberpunk which was a shock if I’m honest. Spider-Man I’ve not seen any between the two yet. Real life tests by people on here are always going to be more interesting than certain YouTubers. SOTTR, Rainbow 6, Final Fantasy and F1 are all favourable for one or the other. I think Cyberpunk is the best to test, and the closest between the two.

And it’s a good excuse to go to that special place we all love so much ;)

Seems like the 7900x3d is an even bigger failure, only 6 cores enabled during gaming?? They really need a hardware based thread director. 7800x3d will be good simply due to not needing xbox game bar and other crap to work right

I need to look at this gamebar thing in more detail. I have it installed but I saw something about 'Win 11 game mode' which I don't recall seeing anywhere.

Rather than absolute framerate, id be more interested how low can you drop power draw at stock clockspeeds with those games? My 12900k is around 90-100 watts tuned to absolute efficiency and running lowest resolution ultra settings. If the 3d can drop to 60-70 watts, that would be amazing.

You don't ever actually need to look at it tbh, it just runs in the background and will never disturb you unless you press the launch game bar hotkey. Alternatively Unless you enter game bar and ask it to popup at game launch.

Intel has a very slight lead in spiderman, 6% if I remember correctly, but the test was done with horrible ram on both if i remember correctly.
