Poll: Ryzen 7950X3D, 7900X3D, 7800X3D

Will you be purchasing the 7800X3D on the 6th?

I’m checking task manager to see which cores are running the game. Looks like 16 onwards are active.
Don't. Use Ryzen Master Tool, it is the only tool available that will accurately tell you which cores are asleep, and which are awake. You'll want to switch to advanced mode when you launch it.

That’s perfect. I can see the CCD0 operating on the game with CCD1 going to sleep.

Cinebench is a terrible tool for testing stability.

Using y cruncher (option 1-7-0) for testing curve optimiser settings and FCLK (although it won't test idle stability) and TM5 for testing memory frequency/timings/FCLK.

Y cruncher creates a lot of heat, so you'll want 100% fan speed, but it should sniff out instability in a few hours+ if there is any in the system. The best thing about it, is that it tells you which core failed, so you know which core to adjust (add voltage) using curve optimiser.

Bios update actually broke my curve. Wouldn't boot with previous settings. Never getting Asus midrange again for multiple reasons (x670e-e)

Ethernet is basically broken but CBA trying to return it as they'll replace with another so.

Shame, I was thinking of moving that way from the master series gigabyte, this will be my 4th personal one.

Using 0922 here on the Hero without issue.

What’s happening with the Ethernet?

What’s happening with the Ethernet?

It just disconnects really frequently, like every 5-10m I have tried multiple cables and read massive threads about this particular Intel adaptor being rubbish.

There are a few alleged fixes to do with downgrading firmware, but it's just painful and doesn't seem to make a difference. There is always a particular event in the windows event logger thing as well, which I can't remember of the top of my head, but it's really common.

Luckily the Wi-Fi antenna thing is really good so doesn't bother me in that respect. But the same time the motherboard cost more than I've ever spent on a motherboard before and I don't have a proper ethernet working.

I am really surprised they are using that same adaptor on even the hero and above!

@muzzza I could not recommend this motherboard firstly from the ethernet issues that I have. But I've also had a fair few issues just having a DOHC profile enabled on the RAM.

Splash out on a pcie card? (I would get rid o board, but thats me)

I can't unfortunately because I have my GPU mounted vertically because if I don't I can't get my cable mod adaptor in as it pushes against the glass (o11d Evo).

Not sure if you can get decent USB ones or not. Never really tried.

I did initiate contact with Asus and got like a generic reply: Have you used a different ethernet cable etc. And I just thought sod this life's too short.

I suppose I could dedicate some time into trying to sort it again but I don't have any confidence The alleged fixes will work.

But you don't have to do anything ot worry about disable/enable. If the CPU is parking cores itself to an 8-core then you are already at the 7800x3D and then if something uses more cores it un-parks itself and uses those cores as needed. If you want to shift a game from one CCD to another then you can do so via the xbox gamebar if you feel it is not on the optimum core but if you manually pushed any game that is not on the x3D CCD0 then you will loose performance in some titles more than others.

As long as Xbox game bar knows you're playing a game then you can manually set it. I wonder how it works in really old games and emulators. Can you just tell gamebar that any .exe is a game so like can I tell it excel.exe is a game?

Intel just released a temporary fix for this. Apparently what causes the drop outs on the Intel Ethernet ports is that it's sending packets of data out of order and it causes the otherside to lose connection. Intel's temporary fix is to disable the EFF feature in the bios - this stops the Ethernet port from using power saving features so it will just run at 100% power all the time, which is like 5 or 10watts but it will stop the dropouts

Yes, you can tell Game Bar that Calculator is a game if you want.

You could get a USB C to Ethernet Adapter, 1Gb are ~£12-15, 2.5Gb one cost more ~£30.

These numbers look bad, drops below 60
I'm not sure what is up with that channel, but all his numbers look bad, no matter what CPU or GPU he is using. He often gets posted by someone as a way to point out how bad product X runs a game. :D

I have Hogwarts, and it ran great on the 7950X, see my videos below. However, I can't bring myself to play it again on the X3D but I'll bet my life savings it runs just fine.

These videos are from the start of the game - it's really light there. He is testing hogsmeade which is really heavy, my 12900k is struggling there as well.

@Grim5 thanks that is news to me. I find it funny they are finding a fix for it, considering how long these bloody things have been used for across various generations of mobo.

If you can give me a save file, I'll put a video up from that area. I can't face actually playing the game to get there.

I had an issue with my Ethernet on my Z790 Hero when installing it for the first time. I went through a windows install or two and even thought it was my internet service provider. At first I just couldn’t connect to the internet at all, I then figured out that I had to install armoury crate which I don’t normally like doing but it was a must apparently. I checked in device manager to make sure it was set to he correct speed etc but now my speeds were all over the place.

Cut a long story short, I had to install the Lan driver from Asus onto usb and completely uninstall the previous to get it all working perfectly.

How old is the motherboard?

@LtMatt How many hours did it take you to tune your CPU? Assuming the majority of this is setting negative voltage offset for each of the 16 cores, and testing until they crash (as you described earlier with ycruncher).

Also, once you've established a voltage for all 16 cores (are they similar or different offset for each individual) does this tend to persist through BIOS revisions? As in, taking a picture/recording the curve settings, then quickly dialing in the same settings when next BIOS update comes around?

Just trying to see if it's going to be worth me doing this when my 7950X3D arrives. Playing some CPU demanding games at 4K (Cyberpunk, Hogwarts etc).

Cheers

The joy of PC's. Glad you got it sorted in the end though. I got the MOBO Nov 22, gonna try that fix Grim posted and see what happens.

EDIT: Just realised I have unintentionally derailed this thread, apologies.
