If gaming isn't your primary workload then the 7800X3D isn't the right solution. End of, case closed.

If gaming is your primary workload then the 7800X3D is a good option as long as your not currently on a 5800X3D or Intel 12/13 gen

But as one of the many mixed-use folks out there... it's not like the 7800X3D is going to have me drumming my fingers on the desk waiting for day to day stuff that isn't a game but a 7700X would have blazed it? :)

I mean, I get it, the X3D is about 4-6% slower in certain tasks vs the 7700X, which in turn gives away a lot to things with MOAR CORES. But for my own perspective, honestly I can't justify more than 8 cores, I don't do big CPU work often enough. But there's also an argument that I could stretch my 8700k a couple more years - I just don't want to :cry: All I want is a "Decent Upgrade(TM)" that will be solid for a while, do me fine for general tasks, make my handful of games shine a bit more, and maybe consider the 8000 series later on.

Problem is you got to look at price too and for the money its priced at you can get good gaming performance along with considerably better productivity performance with an intel offering in that price range.
Vcache this time round as been a bit of a disappointment, its not kicked in hard like the 5800x3d did, unless its just the alternatives that have given it good competition this time round. The added clock speed of the non vcache varients seem to have stolen some of the vcache thunder.

It's a cpu FOR gaming that has kicked intel square in the clackerbag, it's not as if there's not other options for productivity, its not the fastest for productivity but its the fastest at what it was targeted for and uses far less power while doing it.

Gaming power efficiency is great but have any reviews mentioned idle power efficiency? From what I read the 5800X3D was garbage with around 30w at idle compared to 5w for monolithic chips, so I'm wondering if the 7800X3D is the same.

AMD really going all out on this low stock in order to increase hype and demand tactic!

Any idea when the pre-orders might be fulfilled?

EDIT: Just seen Gibbo said late next week for stock.

I suspect AMD were gearing up anticipating this will be the 'big one' and should have good amounts of stock, though the fact there's none for launch is a bit ****. Gibbo is that the case across all vendors, that they won't have any until next week?
