I have noticed apart from a few deals the price of motherboards has been creeping up a little. Not sure if it’s due to the pound coming down 4 pence down on the $ in the last week or people stocking up ahead of the 70xxX3D release.

I think people are starting to stock up. So many people have held off for these. I have to admire them for their patients. Hopefully there will be enough to go round, and everyone is happy.

Interesting, and that's actually part of my mixed use too (run handbrake in background). Is it not possible to manually assign (and lock) cores for each program?

I'm not sure, going to be honest I never looked into too deeply. I only had the system to test for a couple of hours after building and troubleshooting it before I had to take it to a friends to get it set up for them. They had been without a computer for a couple of weeks and were getting a bit annoyed at the wait.

For Zen4 in general and with these new X3D chips, do you need Windows 11 or do they work fine in Windows 10?
I'm specifically thinking about knowing how to use the correct CCD on the 7900X3D and 7950X3D but also wondering about Zen4 in general.

Think you need windows 11 to get the thread scheduler to work properly with the new 70xxX3D CPUs. I had a link to a good article about Microsoft’s statement on this but it got deleted by mods for whatever reason and I can’t seem to find it again.

Just watching part 1 of Jayz new personal build. He is obviously using a 7950X3d. Now i am totally guessing but i would assume that he has already tested the CPU and it must perform well if he is using it in his personal rig

Jay was using AMD already anyway

I'm putting together a budget AM5 build, how many of you lot will be putting some chips on the MM next week? :p

Not me, I appear to have lucked out and grabbed a virtual Golden Sample chip, with it being able to go 2000Mhz Infinity Fabric, 128GB RAM at C36 and running at 4000Mhz (I'm half tempted to just push it all the way and see where the IMC fails with 128GB fitted), all at a Curve Optimizer of -30 for all cores at Eco 105W. I doubt I'd get another 7950X doing the same from what I've read, much less a 7950X3D.

So all I can say is, if you're grabbing the new X3D chips to replace an existing chip: Good Luck! And have fun! :) .... But again, my chip is staying firmly here. :D

Yes it was definitely a 7950X3D. Pretty exciting they have gone out to reviewers.

He also mentioned his motherboard was updated to make the CPU work so we should be seeing some bios updates coming soon.

Should be interesting to see the inevitable shenanigans of cache/lower speed vs less cache/higher speed on the same chip.

Maybe it won't be that drastic because it's not as drastic as other core combos but unless something is making quality decisions on where to stuff a thread there must be times it doesn't give the best outcome its capable of because of how its built.
