and some of us are just impatient.
Guilty as charged :)

The extra couple of hundred amortized over the life of the system doesnt even make me blink. Not to mention that I do like to have as much punch as possible for those rare occassions where I want increased non-gaming performance.

I cant honestly remember the last time I've been as antsy waiting for a cpu review. I guess this is what happens when you only upgrade cpu's every 8 years lol.

Shamino has posted a new Asus beta test bios 0921 with X3D support and some details of dynamic ccd priority.

He updates the first post here with new releases.

He also talks about it here:

A number of posters there are saying it doesn't work as expected with the ccd showing weird allocation and boosting

I think I'd be more inclined to consider the 7950x3d if I had some manual override in Windows or via an app, I just don't trust the combination of Windows 10/11 scheduler combined with Bios updates and the chipset drivers. If you could force the OS and background tasks on the normal CCD and dedicate your chosen application to the 3dcache then yeah sign me up.

Hmmm, after a quick read, it sounds like anyone who may have a normal chip may want to avoid any updates to their system for now as well. Certainly until things clear up. I was looking forward to the new BIOS for my mothreboard too, but I guess I can wait. Lucky I didn't update on reading about the new releases.

It’s a beta bios. It doesn’t even show up on the bios update page.

Yeah he normally posts the beta bios on the forum first for those that don't mind actual beta testing, well in advance of it being on their website.

Think I'll give it a go later since 7700X is single CCD anyway so shouldn't be an issue.

He was going to use a AMD build this time yes, my point being though that if teh 7950X 3D was not a decent upgrade he would have just stuck to the 7950X instead
I think he’s used to keeping the relationship sweet with his core suppliers like and, Intel and nvidia.

Didn’t he tell his viewers that the 40xx series would be delayed so they should buy a 30xx one instead? Probably got a nice kickback from his friends who had an oversupply of 30xx as well. So not sure that his endorsement is one to rely on when it comes to these CPUs.

Doesn't sound like him
I think there was an item saying 30xx will not get cheaper when 40xx get released so might as well buy now.

He said there would be a delay by a up to a year last summer according to sources he can’t name as they would lose their jobs/fake rumour https://youtu.be/PX84uujpVLc. Will probably avoid fake rumour peddlers like him and wait for the real benchmarks before taking a view.

You need to watch what he puts in his own stuff these days and not rely what he says in his videos and quotes. It was a crazy thing to tell everyone to buy 30 series cards.

The problem with rumours is they are often put out by the companies them selves by proxy like this to gauge public reaction, rumour millers are often unwitting pawns of market research.

On the Zen 4X3D chips.

Testing shows there is little change in performance when you lock Zen 4 to a much lower power level, with in reason obviously, but much more so than Zen 3.

For example at its default 170 watt TDP the 7950X scores about 38,500 points in R23, using the 105 watt ECO Mode it still scores 37,500, that's 97% of its performance for 62% of the power, AMD only did this because they knew the 13900K would score over 39,000 in R23 and being just a couple of % behind looks better than being 5% behind, its all about the bar charts.

The thing with the X3D chips is the 3D stacked cache cannot tolerate the same high voltages the cache on the chip its self can, its why the 5800X3D is clocked quite a bit lower than the 5800X, about 15%, Because Zen 4 looses significantly less Mhz at significantly lower voltages i'm expecting the Mhz difference between the X3D version and normal ones to be less extreme than it was with Zen 3.

Food for thought, and yes i could be very wrong.
