This is CES. They will always bring a big announcement to this so that’s the X3D and then some other minor announcements. When they launched the 5800X3D at CES last year it was the headline, then we had some mobile CPUs, AM5 announcement, 6xxx cards, 6xxx mobile cards and some other minor updates. https://www.amd.com/en/partner/ces-2022-next-wave-amd-innovation

I’m very interested in this depending on the increase over 13900k. The 13900k will be relegated to my other system if the 3d is what everyone is hoping it to be. Looking forward to the actual benchmarks.
 
Be cautious with AMD's slides guys

Notice how it only shows comparison to the 5800x3d and no performance comparison to ryzen 7000?

There is a good reason for that: take cs:go as an example, amd says 7800x3d is 23% faster than 5800x3d in this game. Ok, so where does that place it versus the 7700x??





Oh, so the 7800x3d is 16% slower than the 7700x in cs:go. Sounds great, so that's why AMD didn't compare x3d versus ryzen non x3d 7000... That must mean the clock speeds are significantly lower on x3d models (7700x3d must be several hundred MHz slower boost clock than the 7700x) , which makes sense given the x3d models have lower TDP versus the non x3d models

This is gonna be wild

For the 7950x3d and 7900x3d all the extra cache is stuck onto only one of the CCDs (the slowest CCD) and that CCD has a significantly lower frequency to fit the TDP and lower latency. The other CCD which doesn't have the Vcache has higher latency and higher clock speeds and has more of the TDP allocated to it

Yeah goodluck to windows, that's gonna be a hell of a ride of the scheduler

Lol that was quick moved on quickly no mention of prices that's worrying wonder if Dave will buy one if it's the fastest gaming cpu

7950X3D for me need the extra grunt in games, love that 120W TDP too. Will be interesting to see how it fares against the 13900KS 400W TDP. :)

Something I just thought about now, the 7950x3d has one ccd that can do up to 5.7ghz and the other is up to 5ghz. The ccd with the 5ghz has 3D Vcache, the 5.7ghz ccd just has the normal cache.

So what you need to do is; in games like that single core clock speed like cs:go you just need to force the game to run on the high clock ccd. Games that prefer cache and don't mind slower clocks you force onto the ccd with more cache. I don't think windows is gonna do it automatically so goodluck.

This conundrum could be why amd has waited so long to give Vcache to dual CCD CPUs, maybe they have found a way to optimise for it through the chipset drivers, motherboard bios or have a scheduler on the cpu.

You can effectively say that the 7900x3d and 7950x3d are AMD's first attempt at hybrid CPU architecture because the two core clusters are now very different and have different performance characteristics and somehow your system needs to figure which core cluster or chiplet is best for which game

Looks like the 8 core vcache CPU struggles with 5Ghz all core, which means vcache is going to be expensive if you want a 5Ghz or above CPU (e.g 7900X3D).

Unless someone finds a way to OC the 7800X3D beyond it's spec. It seems like there is a big difference in silicon quality between the 8 and 12 core variants here, for some reason.

It's bit jarring that Lisa Su doesn't even mention the difference in clock speeds, considering this was a major selling point of Zen 4 CPUs.
