I moved from an skylake i5 6600 (non k) to a 1700x and absolutely love it. GTX1080 graphics card.
I upgraded due to the amount of cores, decent IPC performance with the hope that future games will make use of the cores, and increase in productivity.
Gaming performance has stayed about the same, but in games like BF1 or ESO has improved due to the cores/threads.
Had issues with memory at first but now running 16gb 3200mhz which has again helped the fps.
Running on a b350 mATX mobo and processor is at stock settings (no need for me at all to OC).
Absolutely no regrets.
