ryzen price drops?

I dare say I would have upgraded already if it wasn't for the outrageous RAM prices.
Going from DDR3 to DDR4 is just so prohibitive right now

3200 cas 14 is always b die. I had one of those kit, 4500mhz on X apex.

Currently, yes.
Although there was also RAM with Hynix IC around at some point with 3200 CL14 but 2T. I'm not going split hairs though, they're both great, one is cheaper and the other one will guarantee regardless.

Ryzen 1600 currently at £180 - 13.7% would make it £155.... that is a nice price. :)

If that's the non-X, I've seen it for that price before, pretty recently even. Just shop around and keep an eye on the prices. Now if I saw the 1600X for that price... that would be killer.

just a shame anything you are saving is ruined by ddr4 if you need it too. its like robbing peter to pay paul so to speak.

True. Biggest reason I didn't upgrade to Ryzen when my 4790k died, I stuck with a CPU compatible with my current set-up. Don't want to lose my 16GB DDR3 RAM. DDR4 isn't much of an upgrade anyway.

I expect there will be Ryzen price drops, since it's been reported on various tech news places about the release of new Ryzen CPUs this year. Likely they will sell the current ones cheaper to get rid of stock. Knowing AMD, they'll probably outright replace the current line-up. But then I am reluctant to think that this would affect Threadripper. It's not been too many months since it launched, so it'll be a while yet before we can expect AMD to upgrade those.

RAM prices aren't too bad if you shop around and don't mind dropping RGB and rhinestone encrusted heat spreaders.
I couldn't care less about RGB or similar "features" :P but what i do want is 3200+mhz ram with lowish latencies and 16gb of that seems to be pricey no matter where i look.

As I said in the other thread, I am sceptical that the price drops will even materialise in the UK considering Ryzen prices have been pretty much what the "new" prices are for months anyway. Even if they do, it'll be a bit of a gamble based on whether you believe the "+10% performance" and "5 GHz" claims of the new 12 nm process for Ryzen+.

and I just bought the 1600 yesterday for £180 plus and now its on for £164 :-/ Can I get a retrospective discount?
