ryzen price drops?

Which one would you guys say is the optimum performance vs price vs reduction?

1700 - was £279 now £260 (6% reduction, £19)
1700X - was £330 now £290 (12% reduction, £40)
1800X - was £429 now £340 (20% reduction, £90)

It's a bit hard to get away from the 1700 at those prices, but £290 for an 1800x is a bargain and well worth the extra IMO.

none of them. ocuk overpriced as usual. shop around and you can get them for much less. (1800x for <£290)

Sorry I’m so out of the tech loop but is ryzen 7 stuffs worth upgrading to from a 4770k. Mostly gaming. Sometimes stream but rarely.

If you're using Software streaming like OBS yes it will make a huge difference due to double the threads and about +15% on Multi threaded IPC.

For gaming, not so much as a lot of games still depend one thread and Ryzen is only about 5% faster in low threading workloads like a lot of games and the 4770K will clock higher, the reason for the huge difference in MT is that AMD's SMT is much better than Intel's, however that's not going help you in games.

IMO wait for Ryzen 2 in April, it should nullify Intel's Mhz advantage as it gets a boost in clock rates.

security upgrade?

Intel has a security flaw in their architecture, that includes Haswell and just about everything that went before it, Intel and Microsoft are in the process of patching it, you probably already have a Windows patch but you will also need a BIOS update that should come later on.

The school of though and evidence so far is your CPU's performance will degrade, significantly in some cases.

AMD's architecture is not vulnerable to that particular security issue, just one lesser issue that has already been fixed with Window updates.

I would still hang on until Ryzen 2, its 3 months away.

but but... 1800x for £280 ish >.>
If Zen+ wasn't so close, i'd suggest 1800X. My current setup is running 40x101 at 1.375v. The other example was about the same, but runs stock at work.

I know i know.... i maybe a hypocrite and get a 1600 before Ryzen 2, my itch is getting bad, its turning into a rash :O

At least you can just swap Ryzen 1 for Ryzen 2 on the existing motherboard.

My RyZen 1700 @3.9 is basically identical to my old 4770k @4.3 in single threaded stuff, I expect this to change in favour of RyZen if you patch the vulnerability issues.

In Multithreaded tasks my RyZen batters the poor 4770k.

I'm glad I upgraded, RyZen+ means I can just simply drop in a CPU upgrade and carry on.
