Hate to be the guy that says "Are we there yet?" but it has been a bit over 3 weeks now. Surely it does not take 3 weeks to find a solution. From an IT perspective I would be answering some serious questions from management at this stage regarding my ability to do my job.

Put simply I would rather an entire day without the forum whilst the problem gets sorted rather than 3 weeks of a useless information base.

If there is currently no viable solution to the problem then keep your users reasonably frequently informed as to the progress of the issue would be better than leaving us sitting here twiddling our thumbs.

TBH, I'd rather have the search missing and the forums work, [H] only in the last 24-48 hours suffered a database crash and they had to roll the forums back to a state that was many weeks old :eek:

Thousands of posts/threads/users etc. lost!

Stop moaning about it you old whinebags!

I can see why your getting annoyed but I doubt you have much experience in the field of vBulletin and how complex a solution to a problem like this can be.

Just chill and wait.

If you need to search for something, post it here and a don will look for you.

agreed, defo would rather the forums stay intact minus search than them crashing all the time, it's bummer not having it but over the last week I've kind of got used to it not being there now, I'd certainly like it back but it's not the end of the world.

I administrate several forums and my line of work in our company has allowed me to observe many server related tasks.

Databases twice as large as OcUK can be collocated within 4-5 days and servers can be modified and upgraded in far less time than that. Entire servers can be backed up, moved, reinstalled and configured all within a week, including the wait for DNS updates.

vBulletin software can be tricky, but, in all honesty, an IT or server professional should have had this job done within 3-5 days.

If my boss told me to sort a server problem on a site as busy as this, and it wasn't done 3 weeks later, he'd be going mad.

If OcUK admins are doing it all in-house in their own time, fair enough, however if the problem is causing this much grief, I would recommend a server professional.

I'm not actually moaning, there's only one thread I couldn't find without a search and the kind sir JohnnyG soon plucked it out for me, I'm just saying what it looks like. If OcUK have sourced a professional to sort this, and 3 weeks later nothing had been done, I wouldn't be paying him/her. :)

As far as I know, it is all in house work.
The reason its taking so long is because they are trying to decide among themselves, which is the best way to fix it. Whether it be having two servers, or getting rid of search forever.

Well to be honest i think since the ocuk guys go out of their way to maintain, update, PAY FOR a forum this big they deserve a pat on the back :)

Considering they have no obligation or need for the forums i think they work there behind off for it sometimes and people take that for granted. not to mention people like gibbo actualy have a business to run :)

Well done lads

I think I'm going to end my life! :D

OCUK is rendered quite useless for me without search though. I'm always using it for computer advice.

Oh so your why it was slowing the site down?

Name and address? I'm sending the keyboard warrior's.

I must admit I'm not a search user dude. I'm usually subscribed to any useful thread, then search within Gmail to find it.

I've done my Search button withdrawals & am happy to do without it now. I am now used to it although being old it took me a bit longer :p
