It saves a LOT of bandwidth, especially for something that is generally useless. Well... useless when the search is working anyway

Allowing Google to cache the forum might mean (portions of) threads that get deleted are still able to be viewed. The dons might not want that.

If you put site:forums.overclockers.co.uk into google, then click show similar results it does find a lot of threads - although most of them old pruned ones.

I've not heard of a robots.txt being used on the forums and don't think it would be a good idea from a business pov - if somebody is searching for a motherboard, we'd rather they find the forums if they don't find the shop - at least they're not finding a competitor then
