Yup... Thats why I was a bit gutted he died first time out.... Left me knifeless :(
All sorted now on my new game. :)

i noticed a good increase in fps, especially the starting village, however it doesnt fix the annoying quests.

After completing a main quest it still has the big bloody green circle on the map.

Though the first trader sells armour now :D

Quite glad i started again, im taking my time in each area before moving onto the next

Well, I have been playing for a few days now. Encountered a few bugs, no show-stopping problems yet... although A-life seems intermittent at best.

I am trying to decide if I should just put the game to one side for a bit until GSC sort out the patches...

I really don't want to start the game again every time they release a patch... :(

Still deadly buggy after patch and it introduced few fresh bugs as well... Garbage still needs defending every time you enter the map, exit from the underground is still not acknowledged if you don't kill the brain damaging creature or exit the same way you entered, even more random respawns and enemies still shoot through walls and metal objects (like bridges). Using gun with silencer still alarms everyone within a mile and once alarmed the enemy still spot you in seconds no matter how thick bushes you hide in.

Additionally the patch added really weird bugs - one is ghost bug, when you wipe out a base to the right of the village and move away then come back you can see patrol spawned and cruising the main road, but as you get close enough to shoot they just disappear.
Pics:
Now you see them

But get closer and they're not there.

Funniest thing is - if you start shooting at them while still far enough to see them they react, start running towards you, rise their weapons and then they vanish into thin air.... spooky

Second issue is corruption in certain parts of the game - you open PDA, the whole screen freezes with cursor moving very slowly in jumps across the screen, you can escape to main menu but it's also slightly corrupted and it stays on the top of the screen. The only way is to reload last save...
It only affects one area in the game for me.

Notice HUD and save game message while the whole in game screen has "sticky" main menu corrupting display...

Just tiresome....

The patch only made the crashes a little further apart for me but still crashes all the time!! :( I Really want to play this game but its so frustrating..have tryed using a crack but that didnt work as some people said it helps.

you would have thought with the ammoount of time they have had to develop and build this game they would have made the testing process a bit better to ensure that the game is almost bug free and PLAYABLE!!

*Sits back, arms crossed and waits for better patch*

well crashs went down big time for me from evey 10mins (locking up the whole pc) to nothing by swichin off evey thing in my nvidia drivers so the app (in this case Stalker) has full controll crashed fro me went down after i did this dos'nt stop chuggy frame rate in some areas though even on my pc!!

Say what?
Real antialiasing is not supported in this game, and if you want to enable the fake antialiasing in 99% of cases you need to type "r2_aa on" in the console. I must have said this fifty times but nobody reads it. :p

Haha, sorry mate. ;)

I'll remember that in future. I cant believe AA doesnt work of the bat. What the hells going on with games and drivers these days.

It's right. ;)

Just type "r2_aa on" into the console, but I warn you it looks like crap.

Totally agree with you about hardware support etc. being a joke.

Patch did not cure my crashes. Game still freezes my system after 10 or so minutes. Anyone else notice the little floppy disk icon that appears if they get the same crashes? :(

if these crashes are vista with over 2GB, there is a thread giving you a number of possible solutions, i used the 3GB enabler for mine and hasnt crashed since.

While i was reluctant to patch, i have, the game seems far easier than it did, weather this is because i have become used to its aiming system or perhaps they have made bullets a little stronger i dont know, but its actually fairly easy now even on master. I have to disgaree with you VON the AI no longer have eagle eyes and do not see me well at all in the bushes, they also seem far more aggressive in comming forward. The game does have problems but for me it doesnt take away any of its enjoyment, i do however really want to know what triggers the two artifacts that appear in the passage under the railway embankment, that gives you increased stamina. If anyone knows let me know.

The patch really has made the game better, the ability to buy reasonable item from the Trader is a nice touch, the bullets with increased ballistix for the Pistols makes a huge difference in the early part of the game and the armours are expensive but within reach within a few hours of game play(not that id buy one simply because i know where to get other armours pretty quickly) i will be intrested to see what the barmen sells.

I havent personally noticed an increase in smoothness or framerate however it ran well before so changes would be hard to spot. I average around 35-40 (min of around 30)FPS at 2560 x 1600 With everything on max. This is the first game i have played on my Dell3007 and im amazed i find these frame rates acceptable but its smooth and looks amazing.

Couldn't agree more. Seems like more and more users on here are getting de-sensitised to the idea of patching games. It is almost as though they expect that the product they've just bought for £30+ will be faulty and will require significant re-writes to enable proper use. Why is this? I know that pc games have to be scaleable whereas console ones don't but surely that's what direct X is supposed to take care of....

Games like Stalker have been in development for longer than subsequent ice-ages yet are still riddled with bugs and doesn't work on an OS that's been knocking around for 6 months now.

Can you imagine if the same mentality happened with other media? The latest film for example, the studio is pushing for a particular release date so the producer tacks on a unfinished ending and some of the editing work is incomplete so there's a few scenes that don't link together. There's a few mastering issues that are still to be resolved so in half the cinemas where it's showing the movie stops 15 minutes in and the projectionist has to change the reel or eject the disk (whatever they do these days) a couple of times.

Despite all this, everyone raves about the film and looks forward 6 months to a directors cut where everything is fixed.....

although the patch hasent apprently fixed the vista issues, you can still fix it using the fix that someone posted on these forums a few days a go cant you?
