S.T.A.L.K.E.R. FIRST PATCH HERE!

The floppy disk icon is on sceen a lot of times, apparently it is when new stuff is loaded to and/or/from memory so that might be an indication why it crashes?

I haven't had a single crash, CTD or lockup in 3 days of playing, both without and with the patch.

MasterX; Yes, an 1800XT. This is common then?

I am running a 1900 and i am having problems. have looked on other forums and it seems that the ATI cards are having a harder time running the game and making it crash more then the Nvidia......So i believe

Ive never had any crashes on XP pro yet, still on sp1 as well, do get some weird slow downs in places that previously ran fine though.

Also if its teaming down and i go into the options etc... then go back to game, i still get those flashing grey triangle polygons, only happens when i go back to main menu/options etc.. though.

Mine also seems to be running fine (pre patch, just about to install now). Could do with beefing up to an 8800GTS, but I need a new PSU :(

Thanks for the heads up on the update.

Tried everything...

Conclusion: STALKER (can't even be arsed to put the dots in anymore) is a steaming pile of turd in a bag. It doesn't work...simple as that. Believe me, those of us with major crashing problems are in the huge majority. Even if it is patched successfully, I'm simply sick of the sight of the loading screen - everytime I play, all enjoyment is sapped by the anticipation of the next crash.

The so called "next Gen" AI is nothing short of a joke (see earlier posts about silenced weapons being heard from a mile away and bullets flying through solid structures)

Its crap..

End of.

*EDIT*

Its also worth noting that my game crashes before I've even cleared the first "camp" on the 1st level.

Absolute Disgrace

I'd agree...I only played it for about five minutes until I got to the first building and first gunfight and thought it was that poor I couldnt be Assed playing it again and sold it. All I can say is....five years in development...haha!

Edit.....EA ROCKS COMPARED TO THE DEVELOPERS OF THAT GAME!!!!!!!!

Now, I bash Stalker as much as anyone, in fact more than anyone, but are you honestly saying you stopped playing it because you got killed? Do you do this with all your games?

hrmm just bought the Collectors Radiation edition of Stalker. Should i leave it unopened for a bit? Is it a contender for most bugged release of 2007 ?

My I also point out that the armour piercing rounds (i.e. the ammo boxes with a black stripe around it) can penetrated certain objects such as trees, metal sheets, people, etc.

I feel almost sorry for the people who can't play the game. I would be well vexed too but having finished the game without faffing about with crashes and whatnot, it's difficult to hate it; seriously its up there with the best imho.

What the friggin hell is the point in making a patch where your saved games dont work  The patch only gives you the readme after you have installed it  now I have to start again !!!!! arrrrgghhh!!!

I totally agree This game runs fine upto now on my machine (even better since using the nointro/noprefetch fix). Yes there are bugs, but name agame that has been released on PC without them, developing pc games is apparantly far more difficult than console games becuase of the massive variations in hardware and software running on peoples pc's. This game has me totally hooked, I replayed HL2 for a time over the weekend (of which I am a great fan), then played STALKER straight afterwards and wow IMO it's way better so much more to do and see (HL2 felt so scripted and linear). It may not be as polished as some titles but it is certainly worthy of some respect and not the sl***ing off it keeps getting from some people.
