S2000 AP1 Replacement Suggestions

With any 10 year old hot hatch i'd probably want to factor in that it could be needing a clutch any time now as well, all that turbo torque does tend to much through them at a rate of knots compared to an n/a car.

Fine if you want to jump to something else but there's no way you'll save any money or any hassle doing it so don't try and kid yourself :p

I've had my S2000 for about 4 years now and can't think of what I'd replace it with, apart from a newer one. There's nothing on the market quite like them.

Maybe a 3.0 Z4? More refined but a lot less raw?

Maybe I should look into getting some shocks and an eibach kit to sort out the soft handling. Will be able to get trade discount through a mate no doubt. I wasn't aware the exhaust was a fairly cheap item stock. The rust on the front wings is where you would expect it, right on the lower corners where the stone guard surface is. I think it's just surface rust though. Never put a quality pair of shocks and springs on a car before, only coilovers. I'd imagine the improvement would be very noticeable given the age and mileage on stock. I wouldn't want coilovers due to not being able to go lower than 30mm anyway - the cars an ap1 so on 16s, there wouldn't be hardly any clearance.

Re the hot hatch, I'd be in no rush to buy and so could source one with expensive work already done. The actual risk would be in the engine and turbo, even worse I suppose :D

Dont forget that at this money if you sell a car privately and then buy another one from a trader you lose c.£1,500 of value straight off the bat. Also the devil you know etc.

Mine went bang at 180,012 miles. I did 90k miles in 20 years. Guess what I have now ? Yep another one.

You're not going to be happy with anything after that S2000...

Find yourself a Silvia of any number

I did exactly that (well with a 335i in the middle) and now am pining for another S2000....

There really isn't anything like it

Considered selling mine last year, didn't happen. I think now I would only sell if I absolutely needed something with criteria the S2000 could not meet (> 2 seats, loading space etc) or there was genuinely something I could replace it I liked that was not going to cost me mega money.

It's the only reason I sold mine. Needed 4 seats again.
I'll buy another one day.

Just won an auction for a facelift S2000, my third S2k but first facelift. Hopefully picking it up Sunday.

My Z4 doesn't come close in driving dynamic, it's a cruiser with sporty looks really. S2000 felt a much more thoroughbred sports car, plus the heaters on the S2000 are much better and allow for more roof down days :)

Genuinely not sure there's much that would beat it for the budget with no extra seat requirements etc

Heated seats were the best mod I did to my last S2000, new one will have them within a week of ownership :)

Cost about £60 and takes a couple of hours to plod through.

Same. Easy enough but removing those hog rings holding on the leather DESTROYED my hands. So many aches afterwards. I cut them off and replaced with cable ties.

Looks like a factory install with the buttons either side of the 12v power port.

I think fortunately enough for me it's been long enough since I did it, don't remember it being an issue though. Replaced mine with cable ties also, and added a load of sponge to the worn bolster :)

The installs do look very factory if done carefully.

Sadly I think I'm being ignored re the S2000 I won on eBay, guessing someones offered him more to gazump me as it went rather cheap.
