Safest Browser?

Chrome

- Sandboxed
- Auto updates itself and Flash
- Disables out of date plug-ins
- Doesn't allow Java to run without the users permission

Firefox is the best browser, but its very resource hungry and doesn't let go even after you have closed the tabs, so unless you have lots of RAM Chrome..

IE6 might have been Swiss cheese but more recent (or maybe that should be 'relevant') versions are as good as the competition.

The short answer in my view, for now, is Chrome.

The multiple loading pages i was getting were a worry. I was up to date with AV and Malware program.

Ie is probably the least safe browser with regards to actual security. It's not bad at picking up fishing sites ect though. Use sandboxie and no script plugin for maximum security.

There all pretty much par for the course! Just choose one you prefer to use.

As a side note, Chrome was the first to fall at pwn2own competition with its Sandbox environment being bypassed.

Though it was intentional of the exploit developer to go after Chrome first, they all got compromised at the end of the day.

This, it really doesn't make a huge amount of difference. Also, with Chrome, some will argue that you're giving information to Google using Chrome, making it "unsafe"...don't personally go by this logic, but that is what some will say. If you want Chrome with no Google ties, SRWare Iron is your friend (based off Chromium).

Does Chrome really take info from you etc?

If you have search suggestions enabled, all search queries that you type (ie. only type) in the address bar is sent to Google for the suggestions. If it is a URL, however, it isn't. Crash reports don't contain personal information or URLs, and some 404 pages have suggestions. May be a few more.

All of these can be turned off.

Not a big deal IMO, but some anti-Google types feel that Google is stealing their personal information like this.
