Firefox is the best browser, but its very resource hungry and doesn't let go even after you have closed the tabs, so unless you have lots of RAM Chrome..
Ie is probably the least safe browser with regards to actual security. It's not bad at picking up fishing sites ect though. Use sandboxie and no script plugin for maximum security.
This, it really doesn't make a huge amount of difference. Also, with Chrome, some will argue that you're giving information to Google using Chrome, making it "unsafe"...don't personally go by this logic, but that is what some will say. If you want Chrome with no Google ties, SRWare Iron is your friend (based off Chromium).
If you have search suggestions enabled, all search queries that you type (ie. only type) in the address bar is sent to Google for the suggestions. If it is a URL, however, it isn't. Crash reports don't contain personal information or URLs, and some 404 pages have suggestions. May be a few more.
All of these can be turned off.
Not a big deal IMO, but some anti-Google types feel that Google is stealing their personal information like this.
