salary prospects

Thank you. I'm now a trainee chartered accountant so very little to do with my previous law degree but I realised quite a while ago that I didn't want to practice law as a career. Best of luck with your job hunt though.

Ah, well I can understand the change and I hope it's keeping you stimulated. I actually managed to land a training contract this week so it looks like the hunt is over (providing I accept, of course)!

I graduated top of my class this year (Computer Science with Honours) and have a graduate job at one of the "big four" auditors doing Forensic Computing for £23k.

My girlfriend also graduated this year, having studied Maths and is earning £27k as an Actuary at the same firm.

We both expect to progress quickly though, both in terms of pay and responsibility.

I first read that as 'my girlfriend works in a Aviary' :D

I remember your interview thread, well done to the both of you. My other half is now on more than me until I come off my grad scheme in Feb, and up until that point I'm trying to guilt her into buying the drinks . Not working well soo far :D

But spending money even as a well paid grad can be minimal, especially if you are hardcore saving £500-£800 pcm towards a house. I just want a nice car :(;)

Started my new job on 24k. Should rise significantly after 2 years hopefully.

Job i had before paid 18k.

Because i live near London, i get London weighting for my salary, which is nice, but have the benefit of living like 30 mins from home.

I know a few friends who started grad schemes on 30k+, but the majority were 20k+

Does your University rank you according to other students then? I thought most simply gave you a classification?

No, but those who have done well will get told by staff if they have performed well in some way, formally or otherwise.

Thanks, Moses99p :)

Graduated 2007 in Mech. Engineering.

2008 - £30k
2009 - £33k
2010 - £37k

Unfortunately after that (where you finish the graduate rotations) the pay rises pretty much grind to a near halt as the structure is pretty flat in the firm. Will certainly not sit on my laurels if I dont show progress.

just graduated, 17k moving to 18k after a year. Thinking of it as a stepping stone job though to gain good employment experience( hard to get muchthat pays well without that!). Also there isnt much chance for advancement after that except for a being a manager so i will look for something better in 2 years once ive got the experience :)

It's not in london and is only a 20min car drive so time spent travelling and on public transport e.t.c is small. Could have got better paid in London but then ive got a bigger commute time and more chance of hassle getting to and from work.

I'm relatively satisfied, lol.Could be better, could be worse.

My first job paid £38 per week, you lot must be loaded n stuff!! Mind you that was 25 years ago and it's gone up 'somewhat' since then...

Defo :)

get some experience behind you and have a look around...it's good that you have a job so hey!

I feel sorry for the grads at the company that I've just finished working for. There's a pay freeze there for at least a year. :(

I started on £23k in London five years ago, doing software development. It's been an rollercoaster job market since then. I've turned down contracts doing really noddy work paying £60ph in the past but now all the contractors I know are trying to find permanent work.

I graduated in June and still haven't found a job yet, hell i haven't even been offered a single interview

My degree is in Multimedia Technology by the way, so not the greatest but then again its not the worst. Been applying for jobs with a salary ranging from 12k to 25k and no luck with any.

For those in fincance or work for KPMG/Deloitte etc and have salaries of £30k+, are your hours the standard 37.5 pw though or are required to do your job for however long it takes you?

Personally, I'd much rather stick to the regular workweek and earn less than work silly hours to have a higher salary.

£23k as grad structural engineer in Hampshire in 2007 (23)
+ £3k last year (24)
This year - no pay rises across the board but hoping for a pay rise if/when I get promoted. (25)

You wont find many jobs paying proper money allow for 37.5 working hours per week, even if it says this on your contract...

I need a new job and I've only just got a new one! :(

Department head at a local shop where I was a general assistant - £15k salary.

I graduated last year in Management from the Uni of Nottm. Anyone on a similar course got any tips about what to look for and what kind of job to aim for? I guess a graduate trainee scheme would be much better, I don't think my degree is really valued where I am currently.

I graduated 2 years ago, been to sandhurst and im an army officer. Im on £30k but i only pay £100 p/m food and accomadation.

What was the degree?
