Salem's Lot 2024 (Max)

I've grabbed Midnight Mass on your recommendation - never heard of it But this guy did Hill House? Loved that, so hoping this is good :)
It is pretty good, but...

To many monologues spoilt it a bit for me.
So much better than Salem's lot though. Most Stephen King adaptions have very bad acting in my opinion.

Sounds like this has turned into abit of a car crash

If you haven't seen the original tv series, then the 2024 version is quite good. I just kept comparing and the original did it better.

The 2024 version could have done with a longer run time, flesh out the characters etc, it felt rushed, especially the final battle.

Caught up with it and agree with @ivrytwr3 they definitely diluted the story a little too much, in some parts they did well to bring modern rendition into the story but in others was a backward step to the original. Some of decisions was dubious and didnt make sense which showed weakness in the writing. It was very rushed but can understand the originals and remake was about 3 hours long. This was average and a little disappointing as i was hoping they would improve upon the original.

Bit silly how Mark Petrie became a Ghost Vampire Terminator and could tackle anyone. The Straker scene was underwhelming! Also the decisions to be safe in the outdoor movie theatre instead the Marsden house???

@ivrytwr3 you will love midnight mass.

It was OK but having been a big fan of the book I still prefer the original mini-series - sure it's a bit goofy and low budget but it isn't as rushed, giving the plot a bit more room to breathe and making the lesser characters more meaningful (something Stephen King does particularly well in his books). I also found the original far creepier in key places and not relying solely on jump scares.

I thought the lead actors in the new one were a bit bland and lacking charisma, especially the Ben and Mark roles. I don't know why they even bothered with Straker as he's barely in it (though in fairness, how on earth could anyone follow the great James Mason chewing the scenery?) and Mark's main character trait
(i.e. he's literally not afraid of anything)
was just bizarre.

I'd not seen the original TV series, this was decent not as enjoyable as Midnight Mass or some of the other recent Vampire stuff / Stephen King adaptations I've watched.

Will look at getting the original series and watching that.
