Caught up with it and agree with @ivrytwr3 they definitely diluted the story a little too much, in some parts they did well to bring modern rendition into the story but in others was a backward step to the original. Some of decisions was dubious and didnt make sense which showed weakness in the writing. It was very rushed but can understand the originals and remake was about 3 hours long. This was average and a little disappointing as i was hoping they would improve upon the original.
Bit silly how Mark Petrie became a Ghost Vampire Terminator and could tackle anyone. The Straker scene was underwhelming! Also the decisions to be safe in the outdoor movie theatre instead the Marsden house???
It was OK but having been a big fan of the book I still prefer the original mini-series - sure it's a bit goofy and low budget but it isn't as rushed, giving the plot a bit more room to breathe and making the lesser characters more meaningful (something Stephen King does particularly well in his books). I also found the original far creepier in key places and not relying solely on jump scares.
I thought the lead actors in the new one were a bit bland and lacking charisma, especially the Ben and Mark roles. I don't know why they even bothered with Straker as he's barely in it (though in fairness, how on earth could anyone follow the great James Mason chewing the scenery?) and Mark's main character trait
I'd not seen the original TV series, this was decent not as enjoyable as Midnight Mass or some of the other recent Vampire stuff / Stephen King adaptations I've watched.
Will look at getting the original series and watching that.
