Sallery question - IT tech

I understand this may be a bit personal but I was wondering if anyone can give me a ROUGH idea how much an it technician earns in their first year?

At the moment I'm in training with a company and I know that my pay goes up through out the year depending on how much I do. But I've had a tough time finding out from the boss what the pay jumps up to when I finish my training.

Any ideas? or am I just being greedy wanting to know how much I could be paid?

Ask your boss again. If it goes up then you need to be clear about what you are to expect as a minimum.

How much someone earns depends on many things, so you will get all sorts of random salaries thrown at you.

Depends on location and sector generally - could be anywhere from 12-30k!

Depends entirely on where you work. Could be as low as minimum wage if it's basic work, could be much much higher.

And it's "salary"

My first IT job paid me £16.5k - this is in the South of England.

My bad on the spelling, Whoops! Im hoping it isn't as low as 12 or ill have to take quite the pay cut lol.

Well you're obviously unlikely to take a cut as you'll be finishing training - but as you didn't mention how much you were earning now we had to cover all bases!

Agreed depends on Location.

London offers the highest pay (on average) iirc.

As above, depends on many variables

I'm 12k

(), but thats term time only, and the work is very low end, and its public sector i guess.

Depends what type of work you are doing really as well....its all random

Just ask the boss, as you need to plan finances etc

One other thing....

The IT sector is a little like Law sector.... Each have many roles and career paths. Someone providing desktop support will not be paid as much as a software developer.

if it is a large company the chances are tehy will gove you next to nothing and you will have to train up and leave to get a good jump in pay

I live in Ash Vale

Also I did my work experience at CSC when it was in Frimley. Work in Farnborough now.

On topic, I used to work at Broadmoor and was on about 19k-22k.

1999 - First IT job (2nd/3rd line) was £12.5K
Risen a lot since then, but if I was starting out that'd be a fair salary for first line trainee, I'd expect to rise quickly to nearer £20K though even in the public sector.
