Salman Rushdie attacked

A stab to the neck doesn't sound amazing, hopefully it's relatively superficial. I'm surprised no one has had a pop before, unless I've just missed that?

I'm not sure if I'm reading the room wrong, but is there a reason we're avoiding referring to Islam/Muslim extremists? Its hardly likely to be a diehard Catholic :p
You know it triggers some people, hence the non descript title...

Appalling. Hope he pulls through, and sanctions against his attacker and those who encouraged them are strong.

Sanctions? What, like stopping his milk delivery or curtailing his Netflix account? Sanctions.... Good grief Mr. Jack.

Personally I think Rushdie is a bit of a scholastic attention seeker who revelled in bleeding edge controversy, but of course murderous attempts upon him should be dealt with by the full weight of the law. But... New York... hmm. Sanctuary city and all that.

Oh no, OCUK's resident self-admitted racist doesn't know what words mean. I am Jack's lack of surprise.

Ok, I'm just a thick mechanic, direct your ire at my ignorance of the meaning of English words at these folk then:

Literally couldn't be bothered to read your own link:

a strong action taken in order to make people obey a law or rule, or a punishment given when they do not obey

I will leave it to the forum members to decide if "sanctions" is a reasonable response to an act of attempted (hopefully..) murder of an Anglo American author of albeit controversy.

A train from the Speaker's Corner appears to have disembarked, so, to quote Gerry Anderson, "Anything can happen in the next half hour" :)

Man attacked in apparent act of retribution, and the response is immediate calls for further retribution.

And on it goes...

Is there not some similarity to people's responses to the Russian / Ukrainian situation that's gained remarkable traction in the media? You of course have never supported retribution..
