Samsung 226BW Bad Caps warning

I RMA'd mine 4 weeks back and I got a refurbished 2443BW as a replacement as I complained I was a professional user and needed my monitor for work. Samsung seem to use a repair company to do the work, so ask for a fast turnaround.

amkotron do the repair work i had a sub standard service with them when my 223 went the way of the dodo took 5 replacements to get one half decent even then i wasnt happy so i just got rid and brought a new 24"

Firstly very helpful info here... Im going to have to check mine tonight although the monitor itself is working faultlessly and im 2 years into using it. Im thinking of selling it and upgrading to a 24".

Resurrecting an old thread, just to say that Samsung are swapping my monitor after this problem.

They are actually coming to collect it from my house and swapping it for a refurbished one in the next 5 days, cannot complain about that!

I work for Samsung and can confirm this is now standard practice within our service department to replace RMA's with refurbished models on both monitors and tv's these are sourced out to certain companies that do the work on Samsung's behalf.

So technically there's a good chance that when (or if) my 226BW S-panel goes in for repair, I won't get an S-panel back? Great.

Its dead easy to replace the caps on these power supplies and the caps themselves cost pennies. If the monitor is out of warranty or you want keep your panel just repair it yourself.

If it's out of warranty of course I'll repair it, but if it's in warranty I have no plans on voiding it, just in case something else goes wrong further down the line that I can't fix so easily.

It's such a shame that Samsung produced a great monitor, but then tried to ruin it by the panel lottery and using these cheap bits. I don't think I can recommend their screens again until someone can show me they don't use rubbish caps in the new stuff either.

Hi all,

Did anyone ever replace the 820uF/25v caps with either a 10mm/25mm or a 12.5/20mm caps on these monitors?

I am asking because I am not sure of the spacing as I cannot find any 10mm/20mm caps.

Thanks.

I'm glad I found this thread. My 226BW is suffering from the flickering as well. I opened it up to and noticed that caps C110 & C111 have gone bad (bulging at the top).

Now I have 2 questions.

1. Where can I find the capacitors to buy online? Anyone got a good UK online store I can get 'em?

2. Should I be worried about polarity/how to insert the caps once I do get them.

Thanks for the help. :)

yeah, you can get components from a well known high street retailler whose name starts with M and whose first syllable is also a navigational device...

as for capacitors, yes they are polar - they should have the -ve leg marked. for example, one i just happen to have lying around here has a bright grey (if theres such a thing) stripe down one side with " - - - - " down it to mark the negative leg.

Sweet. Thanks all, for the info. I did visit ****** but they had no 820uF caps. I'll check out Farnell and rswww.

Thanks once again. :)

Check uk.futureelectronics.com

You'll want passives->aluminium electrolytic capacitors, then drill down to the caps you want with the search bar. This is where I bought my caps from, there is no minimum order quantity.

edit: I've checked on that site using the dimensions given in post #17. They don't do 820uF 25V caps in 10mm diameter, only 12.5. However looking at the photo in #17 you should still be able to fit them side by side if you get 12.5mm ones, they just won't be flush with the board as you'll need them to standoff so you can bend the legs into the solder holes. Failing that just lengthen the legs on the one marked C110 and lay it flat out of the way.
