Samsung 24" and 27" CFG70 144 Hz / 34" CF791 100Hz VA FreeSync

I don't seem to have to have trailing unless I have motion blur on in games then it is really bad. Once turned off, nothing.

Compared to my TN panel that had no ghosting this one definitely has it when comparing to flying alien blur test. It is very noticeable on that test.

Also noticed when in bf1, standing in front of a corner and moving side to side there is ghosting (or is it called inverse ghosting / overshoot?) on the edge of the wall. I do not see it whilst gaming or at least I do not notice it (but I am not advanced user who would notice such detail). Even to notice that blur I would need to be very close to the wall and specifically look at the outline to notice it.

I checked that wall ghosting with 3 different options of response time - standard faster and fastest but did not see any difference between them.

Yeah I agree, it is noticeable to me when looking for it, otherwise whilst gaming I don't seem to notice it.

I received the 34" C791 today from Overclockers but the box had appeared to be opened before. It was double-taped on top with 2 different tapes (as if previously opened then re-sealed).

There's a chunk of styrofoam broken and missing too from one of the corners.

The top left corner of the silver bezel of the monitor appears to have a small chip where you can see the white underneath.

There was a colour calibration sheet inside so perhaps it was opened to do that. Did anyone else's packaging arrive in this condition?

Send it back. Clearly you've not received a new product, even though you paid for one. OCuk should cover the return postage.

Been doing some testing.

Witcher 3 on ultimate engine has specific range that triggers perma flickering, as long as fps is between 49-52 there is flickering, 48 and below fine, 53 and above fine.

Also did windmill test and yeah a lot of flickering on the ultimate engine, a lot.

Also noticed something strange, when using "fastest" response time in the menu ghosting is the worst, when using "standard" response time ghosting becomes much less noticeable. So faster response time makes ghosting worse, I thought it was the other way around

I haven't had time to follow this as I'm preparing to move. Haven't had time to return my 24" or hound Samsung about a firmware update to disable the strobe or regain brightness control either ...

have they commented on the matter? is it going to happen?

I stand by my prior assessment that it's the worst monitor I've ever used (with the best panel).

The brightness is absolutely eye bleeding, and the ****** strobe is a joke - gave my electrician a migraine after 10 minutes of use, and he had to take the rest of the day off work. As for me, my eyes constantly hurt, feel cross eyed, and have had the worst and most fitful sleep since I last used a CRT day to day, 14 years ago. tried playing BF1 and I can't even focus on the image.

Why am I subjecting myself to this, you ask? My old TN monitor died, so I've had to use this for the last week.

It's an absolute joke, and extremely sad given how brilliant the actual picture quality is.

If I may ask, why was your electrician using your gaming monitor?

Selling my C24FG70, not because it has issues but I miss my ultrawide Samsung so I'm switching to the C34F791.

Mine's an October build, haven't tested for the purple motion issue but in all honesty mines been pretty good. Maybe I can't spot the issues but if I hadn't of read about the problems beforehand I'd be perfectly happy with it - just wish it was bigger and with a higher resolution!

C34F791 has arrived, but no UK plug? Will have to get onto OCUK and get that sorted.

Fortunately I have a converter, will test this huge best out tonight :)

When mine arrived there was both EU and UK plug (UK one was black as opposed to white) that goes from the wall to the power brick.

Ahhh found it! was stuck on the inside packaging, think I'm a little too eager to get this thing up and running!

Now hoping there aren't any dead pixels....

ehm 3 hours passed.

Whats the verdict and how are the colours?

Apologies, been enjoying the new screen :)

So far so good, no dead pixels, no noticeable bleed to the naked eye (will check more thoroughly later on).

Colours certainly do pop, haven't calibrated yet but will dig out the i1 Display tomorrow.

100hz is certainly an improvement over 60hz, obviously not as good as the C24FG70 I had before this. Still working out which is best out of the response time options. Magic upscale is an interesting one when watching films.

Very happy so far, missed 21:9 and glad to have it back.

How would you rate the colour differences between the 2 screens? Obviously one is much higher resolution, but they both use quantum dot. Which 'pop's more and looks better?

Southernorth, the colours to me seem very similar but the 34" has the wow factor - size and 21:9 is an absolute joy and emphasises the larger colour gamut.

No question that the 144hz on the FG70 means better motion clarity, especially with the strobing enabled but 100hz is more than enough for me, someone who is mainly a casual gamer and watches films etc.

Surprised how even the backlight is on this one, its much better than my old Samsung 34" ultrawide.

Just tried a bit of gears of war 4 and its epic, getting 90fps on ultra with a gtx 1080.

Most likely irrelevant to most but looks like I can do 96hz which is great for 24fps films :)

Wish the Netflix app in windows would allow zooming to take advantage of 21:9.

P.S. The strobe is actually tied to using the faster or fastest response time settings at high refresh rate. But if you put it in normal responsiveness mode, then you get poor responsiveness (too poor for 100-144Hz).

Also, even though the strobe may be turned off in Freesync mode, you still can't control brightness. Further, the strobe only appears to turn off when you actually engage Freesync in Radeon Control Panel, not by just turning it on, on the monitor ... or maybe my eyes are just borked by this stage and I can't see properly any more.

The settings are an absolute *********** on this monitor.

Not trying to be rude man but i read a lot of normal and pro reviews and there is basically no difference at all in responsiveness between normal settings and faster/fastest. the response time is always extremely good and even better than some TN extremely fast panels, so if your eyes are hurting and bleeding so much i dont get why u keep using Faster and Fastest setting, just stick with the normal so u can adjust the brightness and the response time is the same.

These are link of pro reviews where they state the same things i wrote above:
https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/samsung-c24fg70/
https://uk.hardware.info/reviews/71...r-comeback-gaming-response-time-and-input-lag

This is an extract:
"Using a sensitive camera and small tool called SMTT 2.0, we compared the latency of the C24FG70 with a range of monitors of known latency. By taking over 30 repeat readings to enhance accuracy, we measured 4.14ms (over 1/2 of a frame @144Hz) of input lag. This was with ‘Low Input Lag’ enabled, which had no noticeable negative side-effects. No significant difference was recorded when setting the ‘Response Time’ to ‘Faster’ or ‘Fastest’ and therefore activating the strobe backlight feature."

Anyway i agree with you that considering the cost of this monitor the problems with freesync and purple trails shouldnt exist at all
