Samsung 980 1 TB PCIe 3.0 vs samsung 970 evo plus 1tb pcie 3.0

There are no issues with the Samsung drives any more, the FW updates sorted them. Any new issues are isolated to a faulty drive or whatever as per usual RMA process for any brand.

Buy whatever is in budget at the best spec you can manage. Gen 3 or 4 doesn't matter, 99% of home users inc gamers will not notice any difference between 3 or 4 for gaming, and even in productivity the biggest advantage is having a drive with dram cache as you avoid the eventual throttling with large transfers, assuming you do that often, otherwise it's a non issue again really.

I've owned 1TB 970 Evo Plus long term, had the 2TB Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G, 2TB Samsung 990 Pro, 8TB Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus, other than sustained large file transfer speeds, there's very little that sets them apart in day to day use inc gaming. The upshot of Samsung is that you get superior software (Magician). Something I've yet to see any other SSD brand be able to get quite right.

I've never heard of problems with the main SSD brands or with any recent motherboard. Mileage might vary if using a very old chipset from when PCI-e 3.0 was still in development or lesser known brands (usually results in very long POST times rather than complete failure).

You should be absolutely fine with AM4 and a brand like Samsung, etc.

Samsung SSD's are known for having problems

I even have problems with my own samsung 4TB 870 EVO
Which makes me a little worried as i didn't learn from this and just gone an bought a 2TB 990 pro :o:o:o

I was talking about PCI-e compatibility - using newer spec PCI-e drives on older spec PCI-e motherboards.
