Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

just got my Galaxy S I9000 done the 3 buttons DOWNLOAD MODE working used super one click all good looking at rooting the phone do i update the phone first then root and what is the easy way of doing this looked at [APP] z4root but no longer works . thanks
z4root which should still work on your older stock firmware, use that to root then copy the /efs folder to the PC first thing. Update to JPY, Kies can be spoofed. Use Superoneclick and Busybox installer, then factory reset and format the internal SD. You won't lose the root.

Right, been reading up a bit on this stuff.

I held down those 3 buttons and got that black menu with text to load (with different options like reboot, format sd card etc...)

Does this mean I can do whatever with the phone and I can't brick it? Or do I need to do something else first?

You still need to read up on what you are doing and make sure things will be compatible etc. It does mean any flashing that goes wrong can quite safely be rectified

Is there anyway to completely wipe your phone and revert to stock firmware etc?
As if it were brand new?

Tried doing Darkys 5.6 and it didnt comlpete successfully but looks to have installed it on the phone however I get random errors, it canes my battery and it feels a bit jerky.

Just want to know is there anyway I can revert the phone back to 2.1, and completely clear EVERYTHING off it so its completely fresh!

You can flash an eclair firmware via Odin, this will give you back a Stock 2.1 ROM.

Have you tried a factory reset, clear cache/davlik cache, since you flashed Docs rom? may help.

As long as you haven't removed any stock preinstalled software, otherwise the factory reset will cause problems!

Just thought I'd add - getting Quadrant score of ~1200 using JPX firmware with no lag fix. Phone feels so much faster than JPO! The time it takes to install from the market has reduced by about 2/3 for me.

Long press 'copy' /efs to sdcard (internal SD). Go to sdcard, 'long' press Zip folder. Zip file is stored in sdcard/SpeedSoftware/Zip. Connect phone to PC via mass storage mode, copy zip file across to PC. I'd also move the copy of /efs to the external SD in a backup folder, so when I reformat the internal SD it's still on the phone to copy back over the original.

JPY appears to be arriving on Kies now in a more official way (i.e. those who didn't spoof with the registry).

Have a look for yourself, seems to work with XEU phones only at the moment, certainly a good update over 2.2!

back up all your apps etc with titanium and then factory reset

Can i not just re-install the apps again? I have the free version of titanium

going to factory reset in the next hour and see if kies has an android update

Meh no firmware update via kies :/ gay program!

Model GT-1900
Current Version PDA: JF3 / PHONE: JF3 / CSC:JE5
This device cannot be updated

Using doc roms all is good ,got a decent kernel on now as well! One question if you already have one theme flashed onto his rom via CWM can you just flash another one over the top? CBA to have to flash it again if it doesn't like it.

Thanks in advance
