Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

It had always been a bit hit or miss whether it would open correctly, often just sitting on black screen until restart.
Also had minor niggle with ringing, I usually have phone on silent so it never bothered me. But phone would always ring once then just vibrate...
I did have it fail to detect the SD card a few times, mount and remount would always bring it back but was finding it a bit tedious.

It's more a case of trying something else to see what it can offer. I imagine I'll go back, change scares me. :D

Try that kernel I posted, I don't have any issues with the camera what so ever.

Looks like I'll be going back as soon as possible.
This WEUI rom is destroying battery, I listened to an hour long podcast on the train from SD card, did not have screen on at all. Battery was down 20%...
Phone then needed battery out to do anything. Battery now down 30%. It's been only been off charge about 2 hours... :|
Good thing I took charger to work today!

Edit: Back to the friendly, simple world of TeamICS 4.2 again. This time with added Semaphore kernel.

No activity on this thread for a month but my SGS still lives on strong thanks to SlimICS ROM

I'd given up after a 2 month wait for a TeamICSSGS update and so far very pleased with this ROM (early days yet though). BAsed on AOSP with some neat extra features. Lots of apps removed for initial install though so you'll have to install a few straight away. e.g. Phone.apk (as a fix) GoogleBackupTransport.apk, GoogleTTS.apk etc

Anyway, love it so far and sure is smooth for me.

Me too. I was using TeamICS, but after putting the Semaphore Kernal on, I didn't feel like the battery was lasting as long as it used to.
I waited for an update to the ROM, but in the end I gave up and switched to SlimCIS. At the same time I put the latest Semaphore kernal on, and now I feel like the phone has yet another new lease of life. Smooth and fast enough, good battery life and plenty of tweaks to keep me happy, for a while at least.

I'm using SlimICS and the Devil kernel, very good performance.

Looking at the phones out at the moment, I don't think I'll get a new phone for at least another year.

I have just gone to SlimICS 3.8, I have installed the phone apk. But cant recieve calls.

Don't know if this helps but I've just read this:

Slim ICS 3.8

IMPORTANT NOTE: For all phone except Galaxy Nexus, if phone dialer FC's, d/l Phone app via UpdateME/ apps. Clear phone apk data and try. Problem solved.

I fancy trying this rom but never dabbled with such tweaking - anyone got a easy newbies guide? I've seen this guide but it seems to have a more recent 4.04 update and on the slimroms website the latest ROM is 3.9:

Think I'll have to give that a try, although performance is exactly where I want on my phone at the moment.
TeamICS and Semaphore, speed-wise I just do not need an upgrade.
Battery life though... If I'm on wi-fi for the whole time and only picking it up a few times a day to look, with the odd call, it can get 3 days...
If I'm actually out and about, using it for music, Facebook, texts, etc... 10 hours... :( Music has been a sore point since I moved to ICS actually, both Soundcloud and music from SD apps destroy the battery.

I think I will try a fresh wipe with 3.9.

Just having a few more prolems with things not working.

Has ICS been officially released for the GS? My friend has given me her husband's GS to look at, I think it is bricked. She told me he was trying to update to ICS, failed and couldn't revert back. AFAIK he doesn't know about flashing etc so I presume he tried to do it through KIES etc.

The phone won't go past the 'Samsung Galaxy S' screen. I assume I can flash it to get it back to normal?

ICS hasn't officially been released for the SGS. It would have been a custom ROM.

If you can get to download mode, it isn't bricked. When I had an SGS for well over a year I did a lot of flashing, some of which went bad. Always recoverable from download mode.

Tried that but when it boots into clockwork after installation there are quite a few red lines/errors. It seems to be stuck in a boot loop.

Clockwork?

Use all three files which will overwrite the recovery as well.

Select re-partition as well.
