Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

I went for the Krusell DONSö in the end, my reasoning is that whilst it's in my pocket etc, it's protected, but when I want to use it, there's no bulk at all. I'm pretty careful with my stuff, so I don't think I'll be dropping it out of the case, but I suppose you never know. I don't want to ruin the phone by doubling its size though.

I was just wondering how fast does your 3g go goes, Mine never goes from about 200 - 360kbs, Im using t-mob which I think is the reason its so slow. But my friend has t-mob with desire and she gets around 1mb, and my other friend with galaxy S get around 4mb but his on O2. So I was just wondering how fast are yours on T-mob.

funny enough i have never noticed this board for mobiles. as i have 3 of these i am going to find this interesting reading.

just to answer in reply to the above, i am also on T-Mobile with all 3 of these phones and 100% honest, love the phone but T-Mobiles internet is so badly slow i reckon i could walk to the destinations quicker. the deal was better than other providers when i bought so i am more than happy to stick with them but i certainly look forward to them merging with Orange to trial their broadband.

going to look at these posts to see the firmware upgrades as i've noticed you need Flash for a lot of video files but it doesn't support it which is annoying.

Thinking of picking one of these up second hand off me brother he can't get on with it and is going Iphone 4 way, one thing though i had one around 4 months ago and what annoyed me the most was the lag, now i know there was a lag fix but it never really got rid of it all have these new roms sorted this issue.

i've noticed plenty of lag on the net to pages, put that down to cr4p BB but lag on the actual phone i can't say i have noticed.

the amount of bad press the i-phone 4 has had i'm still surprised people buy them. each to their own though as no matter which phone you buy, there will always be somebody that has had a bad experience with them or just don't like them.

me, i wouldn't have an i-phone out of principle, i despise them dictating what you do or don't have on it and where to get it from.

It was just the lag moving around the phone that drove me mad with the Galaxy S, I used the lag fix but it was still present and annoyed me enough to sell the phone.

I had a Iphone 4 for a month was a fantastic phone never had this antenna issue with it, no doubt the best phone I have used but with the rumours they would be bringing another Iphone out early next year i didn't want to take the risk on losing lots of money so sold it on and only lost £20 on it.

I am using a old crappy W880I I had lying about atm debating which phone to get, don't want to spend a fortune on one now and with me brother wanting to go on a I4 i been thinking of his Galaxy S, it is the best Android phone out atm but the lag puts me off it.

i honestly can't say i've ever really noticed it.

yes on the odd occasion it seems to "pause" for a split second but i can live with a "split" second time lag on the odd occasion. it won't be detrimental to my life so i'm not really bothered.

all that said though, that was the reason i just build a new rig because i was sick of the slow lagging old rig. each to their own in different circumstances.

Just spoke to the upgrades team at three as my contract is coming to an end and this phone came up as an option along with the Iphone 4. So I decided to go with this phone as I heard the Iphone 4 has bad reception problems (the Operator at three said they have fixed this) I just really hope I haven't made a bad decision in not choosing the Iphone 4 over this.

Anyway this is what I managed to squeeze out of them, I tried pushing them for a free bluetooth headset but they wasn't having it.

We'll see, they're prone to make claims. It's pretty good though, GPS lock is fast and tracks well. Power usage is down, 10hrs messing around on it and 75%. And no lag with 30 apps or so, but that's with a totally fresh install so could down hill a bit. Best I've used so far.

Out of interest, which version rom were you on before and what was your battery life before?

Cheers :)

JPK, just an estimate, but 10hrs of general messing around. 50 to 60%. The display is using less. I had noticed the recent Froyo builds used more display power. This is more like the 2.1 officials.

BTW, anyone looking for backplates. Found these in the UK £2 each on the bay, ABS shell with a glossy rubber paint.

My personal opinion after owning both phones is the I4 is the better phone, i thought the lack of Super AMOLED screen would be a downer but the high rez of the I4 screen is amazing after using me bro's G S i could see how inferior the screen was due to resolution, and if taking pictures is a big factor the camera on I4 is better and the HD recording is superior also.

I don't miss the I4 as i hated Itunes hate it with a passion but out of the 2 the I4 is a better phone but does have a higher premium also, the only thing i don't like about Android phones is they soon drop prices, look at the Iphone 3g still around £180 on ebay for the 8gb model that's insane money for the spec, i already seen Galaxy S go for £280 mark.

I've noticed that the display brightness setting seems broken (on 2.1 JG3). When I set it to lowest brightness, apps like the browser and so on still up the brightness when I touch the screen, then dim it a few seconds after with no input. Is there a way to make it stay on low brightness all the time? The browsers brightness setting is also on lowest. I think this eats up more battery than it needs to, the display is very readable even on lowest brightness and in daylight.

Really want to get Froyo on the go on my phone but I can't get it into recovery mode at all!

I've been doing some reading about and is there some sort of locked firmware which has the 3 button recovery mode disabled? I've seen some sort of tutorial to get it back working but it involves flashing and all sorts.

Will Samsung create an official release for Froyo soon so I don't have to mess around with all this recovery mode lark - and make it simple to obtain?
