On my X10 mini, its like this:

Settings > Wireless controls > Mobile Networks > Network Mode.

In network mode, you can choose WCDMA only (3G / HSDPA), GSM only (2G / GPRS), or GSM / WCDMA, in which case it will pick whichever has the strongest signal.

The last setting is a pain to use as you'll never have 3G signal when you need it. I keep my X10 on WCDMA only.

I'd assume its the same across all android OS's.

Theres also an app you can get to switch between 2G / 3G.
 
Pretty sure Ebay links are allowed, if any one requires some extra batterys (plus 3x screen protectors, 3x cleaning clothes, mains charger, USB cable and lanyard) this pack is getting pretty good reviews on XDA, i recieved my package today and am pretty impressed with what i got for £8.45.

I was so happy with my order of the above batteries I bought another set!
Been using them for a week or so and they work as well as the originals.
 
I tried using Kies to get the JPC firmware under the test mode and registry hack, when doing this it only offers JM1. - Ive decided I am not going to faff around with Odin, as I am afriad of bricking it. Does anyone have any clue with 2.2 will be offoically out?

They are indeed, I only charge mine in the provided charger to be on the safe side, but tbf they dont even get hot while charging.
It's great being able to carry a couple of spares around with you, especially when it's slack at work ;)

After using the batterys from the above pack i linked they seem to last about the same as the official battery and i did chance topping it up in my phone and it did'nt blow up, thank god.

Depends what sort of case you're after because i don't like covering the phone much up i got one of these:

that Fornowagain linked a few pages back offers minimal protection i got it more to change the colour of the phone a bit.

If you go into Settings>Wireless and Network>Mobile Networks

Then tick use only 2G networks, this will only allow GPRS and EDGE.

Keep in mind not all networks support EDGE, like for instance T-Mobile doesn't. I'm on O2 and they support it.

Also, hotmail active sync has been rolled out now. Anyone had any luck setting it up with 2.1 SGS?

What skins are those for the clock and weather? It looks like clock and weather widget but I don't recognise the skins...
