Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

If I flash a new firmware with Kies, will it replace the secondary bootloader and thus fix the 3-button combo? Assuming the new firmware has it enabled.

Actually I was reading that JP6 is a low release so has bootloaders, the possibility is that it could replace the three button wake. It is enabled, at least on mine. But you won't know till you try or see a report of fix from someone else.
Even with the reg hack I still get "firmware can't be upgraded" in Kies...

Take us through each step. Tips, delete the three keys under DeviceDB then you know you're working on the correct strings and they're up to date. Only edit "ProductCode" & "HIDSWVER". Did you edit the hosts file at some point to redirect the FUD server?

Kies constantly crashes when I try and upgrade the firmware, gets to the downloading binaries and then crash.

That entire piece of software annoys me.

was the Pro ever released?

How are the lag issues? quite tempted by this phone!

Haven't bought a samsumg for ages due to the vibrate then ring option which bugged me like mad.

If you do this reg hack to install froyo when the official euro (uk) 2.2 gets released will you be able to install it or need to reg hack again?

I tried gps today for the first time andthe phone won't even get a satalite lock for some reason might.have to send it back

I tried the ' fooling froyo update'did reg hack etc...went all ok ' downloaded' until the phone tried to install..started to update on the phone saying updating and then red writing came up on the phone saying that it can't access system files and cancelling-so no froyo for me.

just flash it via odin really is simple as , well as putting 1 file in the PDA section and clicking go go
I agree, given the option I'd always use Odin over Kies. Kies is quite frankly a POS. Flashing with Odin couldn't be easier.

Try a full system reset, cache clear & format before you update. Often cures that one.

Ok..i have just done this and am on Froyo now:cool:....you can try it but its not my fault if it dont work!

First uninstall all lagfixes

Start up kies and connect your phone. Wait till kies recognizes the sgs.

Go to firmware upgrade.

If it doesn't report a JPM/JP6 upgrade close the upgrade window but do not close kies!

Go to windows start > run > and type "regedit"

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Samsung/Kies/DeviceDB/

You will probably see a bunch of numbered keys (they look like folders) Find the key/folder that has strings that match your current firmware. So if you are on JPK look for that in the keys. If you have more than one galaxy S (it can happen) then match the imei with the phone you want to upgrade.

Change the following values so they look like this:

"SoftwareRevision"="I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
"ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDXEE"
"HIDSWVER"="I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"

Now go back to kies and click on firmware upgrade again. You should now see the JPM upgrade.

Other info:

First boot can take a while so let it sit for a couple minutes while you stare at that glowing S
Doing this will not change your product code.
3 button recovery mode still works.
This won't wipe your phone's apps, settings, messages or SD card. (at least not for me coming from jpk)
It doesn't matter what firmware you are on we are just using the JF3 value to fool kies.
You will lose root if you were rooted.
If kies crashed while extracting the firmware then try an older version of kies.
If your phone really hangs for more than 5 minutes at first boot then something probably went wrong. In that case start up in 3 button recovery mode and do a factory reset. Dont blame the registry hack, its kies that's the problem. As always flash at your own risk

Just followed all that, looked like it had updated fine. Phone rebooted back in wonderfully however it is still 2.1 lol?! whats occuring? Why didn't it update?

Always a good idea to check what you're flashing first :p

'Latest Version' should look like this:

BTW, if you're on JPM/JP6 the Voodoo lagfix is up and works a treat.

If anyone's looking, try these 3 for a great combination.
