Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

There is a way of modifying a micro usb plug/cable with a resistor that will force the phone into download mode even if the buttons no longer respond http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551

Cheers for the link something I can still try, though it says:
If the phone's bootloader is still intact, that is you see at least the white Samsung logo or the "PC ! Phone" logo on the screen, you should be able to force it into download mode by connecting a homemade jig that simulates the Samsung "Anyway" field test jig.
My phone don't seem to meet this criteria? Not even sure what bit I will have mucked up, I applied an update.zip that was meant to fix the 3-button problem, but I must have picked the wrong one. Do you know what part/level this tries to change?

cheers

My phone arrived today. Finally able to get rid of my 6 year old SPV C500 and get something more modern.

Was wondering what are the basic things most people are doing whenever they get their new phone?

Is there an application that will allow me to download apps onto my PC, and then once ive plugged in my phone by USB, install them to the phone?

I've tried KIES but it says my phone is not supported due to issues with Googles policy.

Ive only just used my phone as a music player, so can’t compare to how it was before Root + Custom ROM, but does anyone else have an issue with the music player/Winamp being ridiculously low volume?

Know for any fixes for this?

Mount as USB, copy to folder, unmount, open in Astro is afaik, the quickest method. It's not really designed for use with a PC, I usually QR code & direct download things which arn't in the market.

Cheers Mysh, sorted it all. I haven't got Wi-fi setup so I prefer to download the apps to my computer 1st then transfer over.

Ignore this imposter who used my account to post this, the fool neglected to check his earphones's own volume control :p

Today, my phone locked up for some reason...so I did a battery pull and restarted it, for some reason it restarted in safe mode. I rebooted it again and everything was back to normal.
Any ideas?

Is this true because GPS will be very important -

Hey, you don't believe me? ;)

It's not just restricted to the Samsung Galaxy S, it seems to affect most Samsung phones:

Here is a good example of the Galaxy S GPS vs an HTC phone (there are many similar images online):

Apart from that it's a great phone, I just hope the GPS issues are sorted on the Nexus S as this problem put me off buying the SGS. If GPS is not important to someone I'd recommend the phone anyday.

Thanks for that.
However, I've just contacted a mate who is a coach driver and he said he has never had a problem since he installed GPS Status by Eclipsim and he can point me to two coach driver mates who also have no problem.
I'll risk it for now.
I have ordered the phone which will cost £11.25/month after my Redemption and Quidco money backs
I can also insure it for nothing on my youngest daughters Uni insurance package where she can have four phones on it.
