Samsung Galaxy S2 vs HTC Sensation

Nice review Robbo,
Looks like Apple have done an excellent job with their camera, If you notice the file sizes are smaller and the processing is better than the SG2, I put the 2nd coke can images into photoshop an used auto levels it virtually untouched the IP4 image but did improve the Samsung.
Bottom line the samsung camera hardware looks to be as good just the processing is not as good, I'm sure a software update would easily straighten that out.
Remember also the SG2 has the stunning Amoled screen which does push reds and greens so that's maybe why the backed down the camera a little ;)

I most certainly can, however the sun just went in. If it comes out I'll try and do that :)

Just my opinion though, they are both very usable in the sun on auto brightness; something I did not expect with the Sensation at least.

Ok, thanks look forward to seeing some pics :)

I've just had a 45 minute episode of Mad Dogs playing on both phones via Rockplayer.

Both on wifi as I said above, both on 30% brightness, sync turned off.

Sensation - 92%, Galaxy S II - 88%.

Not what I was expecting, but there we go.

Do they both have the same cell signal strength on the same network? If the SGS2 had fewer bars, it would have been pushing extra power to the antenna.

Only way to confirm that is to disable cell reception and only have wifi enabled! I can think of the best way would be to remove the sim card and redo that particular test to confirm what uses the most battery for media!

It wasn't identical but they both had a medium-ish signal.

I'll do it again then later :p

So far the screen lets it down a bit I think if it had a led it would be mint and sense 3 isn't as smooth as I would expect just isn't silky smooth as it should be, the higher resolution is there to be seen though things look much much sharper which surprised me.

I also noticed ablue tint on whites on GS2 when on the internet as I said above but its noticeable, I think people will be surprised just how small the Sensation is really fits in your hand its a really nice sized phone they have done a great job.

Wifi signal is stronger I am getting full wifi bars here and only 3 on the GS2, the router is in another room in the house, I wrote the Sensation off but having played with it now its rather surprised me.

Some videos to judge for yourself I have taken the 8gb card you get with the Sensation out as its only class 4 and replaced it with a Samsung 8gb class 6.

I'm considering the Samsung Galaxy S2.

I was wondering what the native music player on the S2 is like for sound quality, volume level, ease of use, and also how does it compare to the iPod on the iPhone.

Today I had the chance to check out the latest top end phones SG2 and the HTC sensation

first off both me and the wife have a desire, and we both love them (bar the battery life) we both love the sense menu system and have thought that upgrading really is not going to improve things very much

however both our contracts have run out and for the same sort of money we might as well get the upgrade

getting back to 2 phones discussed here - the screen on the Samsung G2 is the best I have ever seen and it does have richer colours than the HTC phone

the SG2 also played back a video file and the picture was pretty amazing to say its a mobile phone... the menu's are also as quick as could be expected (faster than my original desire)

the things I dont really like about the sammy are it does not look like a really high end phone the build quality does look somewhat 'plastiky' and the HTC blows it away in that repsect because I think the sensation does look look a million dollars and I also much prefer the sense UI on the HTC and in the real world for a non benchmarking phone user the HTC has the better interface and speed wise I could see no difference using the menu's

the important thing ismy wife is really hopeless with everything teccy but has got used to the menu on the HTC Desire and she really like s it so she is getting the sensation for that reason

I am swaying one way then the other the SG2 screen has to be seen in the flesh to appreciate just how good it is - so after todays first looking at them it looks like the sammy for me and the sensation for the missus

in reality both are exceptionally good phones so at the end of the day I dont think we will be dissapointed with whatever we finally plump for

will start ringing round in the next few days for the best deals

and just adding the Iphone is not in the same street as either of the above phones sat side by side the with my old desire the menu's were so slow on the Iphone4 i thought it was frozen up so wont be buying one of those in a hurry

my 2p

The iPhone 4 you tried was obviously faulty, iOS in operation is much smoother than Android on a Desire.

The latest updates have caused the iPhone 4 to have a bit of micro-stutter but it's just the animations, it's still fast.

Maybe he meant OS animations in general? Turn all the fancy stuff off on Android and menus are instant. I prefer swish over speed though :)

well I thought it was faulty we sat my desire flat out on the table in the pub and sat his Iphone4 right next to it we did a number of side by sides and to be honest I was pretty shocked that mine was quicker everywhere

we booted up
scrolled through the picture gallerys mine is smooth his was stuttering
opening webpages was pretty dire on both phones as the signal area was not good but mine did open the pages whereas his would not

on the side by side comparison I would not touch the Iphone with a bargepole

on the otherhand my brother has pretty much had every top phone known to man and he loves his Iphone4 but what I have seen side by side I would not swap even with my original desire - and with what I have seen today with the new contenders the Iphone5 needs to be one really serious bit of kit to challenge these new Android top line phones

Well it's unfair to compare the iPhone 4 to the SGS2 and Sensation purely because they are a year newer, and in todays phone market that means a great deal.

Any lag on the iPhone must be attributed to the frankly dodgy last few iOS updates, it was completely buttery smooth before those, I'm not sure what Apple have done to mess it up but there is certainly noticeable lag.

It annoyed me too, it was actually one of the reasons I stopped using the iPhone 4 as my main phone, along with the fact I want at least a 4" screen.

Robbo
I hear what your saying but we can only comment about phones that we can actually get our hands on
if the Iphone 5 was out now no doubt I would be singing its praises from the rooftops
having said that the two current top phones are the sensation and the SG2

I just wish the SG2 looked a bit better built

It doesn't look that well built (depending on how you judge it) but I can assure you it's one of the most durable phones out there, so don't worry too much about that.

The build quality (quality, not design/looks, etc) I would say is honestly better than the Sensation, the Sensation has quite a lot of problems with its build quality.

I'd say the price point matters more when you're making comparisons of products, and the iphone4 last time i checked was the most expensive of the three.

If Apple insist on keeping the iphone4 at such a high price point, it's bound to be compared to phones at the same level

Stick the Official Samsung Mesh case on it (right one) - makes it look and feel a whole lot better:
